Back after a 20 year hiatus!
« on: April 30, 2023, 05:04:25 AM »
Greetings all!

I have very fond memories of playing this game in my early-mid teens.

20 years later, I had the urge to fly a P-40, and in my search for a good WWII combat flight simulator, wondered if Aces High was still going.

'Lo and behold, it was!

Some of you (especially those on late at night/early in the morning, as I generally play at night here in Japan, which is the deadest time of day) may have seen me flying around in an I-16, P-39, or P-40.

I love flying inferior early/mid war planes, as I always have done.

I still suck, but after about a month, I'm able to probably shoot down at least one plane for every three times I'm shot down, which seems like a big achievement considering my first 100 or so deaths resulted in only a tiny handful of kills, and it took me 2 weeks to actually be able to reliably put *some* rounds on target!

Anyway, my timezone is weird, and there are way way way fewer people playing these days than there used to be, but I hope to get somewhat involved in the community, make some friends, and possibly take part in more coordinated events or missions. If you ever see me on and are looking for a Wingman or fighter escort, I'm always available to hire and have no national loyalty, so just call out to me in a PM or on /200! I really enjoy operating as part of a semi-disciplined unit or team when I can.

I think I'm enjoying this game every bit as much as I used to. Let's see if we can't keep it going another 20 years.

Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.

Welcome back!

If you have the cpu and $$$ you should give VR a go in AH

Nothing like it if you are an a2a nut

Welcome back.
I myself returned after 14 yrs. There seems to be a stream of former players returning after years away. The numbers seem to be moving in an upward trend. All with similar stories. A lot still remain, it has a home feeling. I’m really not very interested in other sims.

I wish I had more time to fly. I have doubts I’ll get back to as good as I used to be, slowly getting better. But its still a blast when I do have time. Winter is when I have the most free time.

What is a bummer is a great many left before the AH3 release. I was surprised at the improvements, but not shocked, HT is a killer code pusher. I think others who left before 3 might be interested in checking it out again. 3 is old to some, but new to me.

IMO, once the way its played is in your blood it never really leaves, its still addicting.

Welcome Back

I too am returning after a long break in 09. The game is still very fun. There are many factors that are bringing people back. Time and prices being more affordable mixed in with nostalgia.

I always wanted to try pedals. Its a change from twisty but my feet are slowly starting to use them when needed.

The biggest change is VR. It gives you depth like you have never experienced in a sim before. The change is comparable to Pad views to Tracker IR. 3 weeks back and I am still getting used to it. You might even get sick from motion sickness but that fades quickly.

If you have the means, definitely try it.

Like most from what I have seen aim is the hardest thing to get back.

 Have fun

OK You are excused... this time, for taking such a long time off. Get on, get up, and get going.    :D
