"Surprise Attack" was a B-24M of the 308th BG, 374th BS based in China during 1945, it survived the war to be scrapped with only its nose art surviving.
The 308th were based in China from February 1943 and from May supported the Chinese army by attacking the Japanese rear area transport infrastructure throughout South East Asia. With no direct land route to their base the group had to bring all their own supplies from India over "The Hump"; the mountainous terrain separating China from India. Several supply sorties were needed for each bombing sortie. The B-24M was a lightweight, stripped-out version of the Liberator and so it was ideally suited for this high altitude supply run.
