I think that was the best AHII film, the best job of story-telling, blending real film with game footage, and general cinematic craftsmanship I have seen.  Just superlative effort and result.

Yep, this is what we need. This is the way scenario films should go.
Lacking AH3 footage? I/we can fix that :)

I see you’ve caught on to flowing with music, its an immersion grabber, holds attention. :)

Below 5 min is a myth for cinematic.

Thanks Oboe, Animl.  I tried to bring WWII footage in the game play.  It's something I've always wanted to see.  I tried to record AH III gameplay in October 2022 and that's when I realized I have lots of retooling and learning to do.

You're becoming more and more seamless in doing so. :)
Were these made recently or back in the day?

You have a much better flow going with that concept. I'm not sure I want to touch the final product of a scenario,...you're owning that market. IMO, that's the way scenarios should be done.

If me making some wonky videos inspired this, then that was the only real success I was looking for. :)

They were made back in ~2006-2010.  See the youtube descriptions for the original dates.   Started making these before Youtube 720p, or even Netflix DVD streaming was a thing.   :old:

Nowadays more can be done, and in higher quality.  It's incredible how just recording tech has improved.  I used to fly at ~24fps and record <30 seconds at a time in the game.  Made flying and shooting difficult, but it turned out okay in video form.  It was almost slideshow while playing in real time for me.

Animl, it's cool to see film making threads active again.  This forum used to see films by many players back in the day.  They all had their own style they shared here.  Even the lower quality video or sound videos were fun to watch.  We were just happy to watch others fly and listen to their choice of music they liked.  You made a film and you most likely ran into the many technical limitations and creative hurdles we all go through.  There are many aspects, workflows, categories in film making process to mature in.  As a sound guy you know that is part that really makes a film most immersive.  Now you have a workflow and process you can build on.  You've already succeeded.  Have fun making your next one.  When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

Audio, selection, and quality (clarity) does set the imagination in motion. The better the quality the better the immersion factor. The brain should not work over time to accept the audio. With audio, you’re only sure something has been done to it if it has flaws. Its a distraction to immersion.

You can have nothing but a still pic of a junk car, but the right selection of music and clarity can tell a story of the car, even with no lyrics. It brings it to life.

I can tell several understand this by some of the vids I see. If one wants a gripping video don’t pick your fav song, pick what brings out the story you’re telling.

In my own vids, without the selected music, its hardly worth watching.

My videos were made with no system tweaks at all, and cheapest software. I did it on purpose, to show what the average player could make. I also should have spent more time on them? But not this busy time of year.

Talking to a union videographer today about upping my quality on a pc. He uses physical components, not pc, but said he’d see if he could help me out.

My vids look much better on 4k tv from yt.

My true deficiency/limitations are I can’t get the panning I really want without TrackerIR or VR.

Double Feature!

WWII history in the first film.  AH footage in the second film.  This was from the scenario Coral Sea in 2009.  I think this was just after we got an update on water improvements.

Ya know, as we've spoken, It's pretty hard to get a realistic shot without head gear and a smooth zoom. I'm hoping to have some form of head gear by the next scenario. I'm not going to tamper with copying your style on my own though. You've pretty much got that pegged and own it. Always well thoughtout.

I did use the film viewer for many of those shots in DotR.  Have and his crew of hooligans were causing us trouble, including getting film shots of 109s shooting down Soviet planes.  That furball was mostly 109s smoking, hence the focus on capturing a large furball from afar.  It was tough for us Germans in that scenario, and it was tough to frame the story the way I wanted.   :lol

Also, yeah TrackIR is great to fly with.  Also great to film with if looking for a more fluid camera look.  I've not taken the VR route, so I don't have any comment on that tech.

Wish list for film viewer, would be to have manual CM eye and Track IR controls in the film viewer, along with improved video/sound to match gameplay  :)

Filing air combat is one of the hardest type of film making, even for the big boys. There is big information flow, infinite angles all being good, to condense it down into a time limit and retain a full story is challenging. We're doing cinematic, which is the same thing.

I was advised by a camera director to watch Top Gun and see why they used those cam angles/scenes. Evidently there was a lot of thought put into it of course. <shrug>

BTW, The Largith lossless codec is working very well, I use it in every process now..

It's a hobby.

This one is the dark version of the Battle of Britain.

Filmed from the 2008 running of the scenario.  I flew on the axis side during this scenario.  I hope the RAF will let me join on the next go around.
