I'm afraid you 'read too much' into things. I've been creating RIP threads for years now with no nefarious intent nor conspiracy.
and the community really appreciates it.
I know that for me, when someone dies I rush over to AHBB to see what Arlo has to say about it. Then I see a picture with the letters R.I.P. and I feel blessed.
R.I.P. seems pretty disrespectful to me. Can't type out the whole thing? Not like there's limited room( like the gravestones)
