Is my game launcher even needed anymore?
« on: July 06, 2023, 09:47:56 PM »
I know newer computers can pull this game pretty easily. Is something like this even needed anymore?

It would require an update since Windows 10, as the new services section paths and names flip-flopped, and help files would need updating for Win11. Everything else works.

It stops processes, services, cleans, runs files,.. etc.. on reboot,.... then launches an app or game. another reboot sets it back to what it was,... kinda like Gaming Mode but more extensive. Basically it can turn an office computer into a gaming computer and back to an office computer on reboot.

It could be auto-configured or manually.

I created this in 2006, last updated 2010. "The Damned" once hosted it for me on their site, before moved to my own, which is no longer exist. It's a very robust app, but currently outdated.

Ya, I figured the need for this has passed. Quite a few used it at the time. Only a few have asked for it since I took my site down.

Not goin to update it if no call for it.

Although, in films I’ve seen, some could use some connection tweaks, there is plenty of that stuff out there.

Many years ago I used one myself. Once machines moved past having a crank on the front....  :D

Back in the day there was several similar programs (plus some instructions to kill programs through the Task Manager) so I took a look at one of them. As it appeared that most of the stuff didn't need to be automatically running and could be set not to turn on with Windows in their own settings using any third party program felt unnecessary. But as you said, there's people who don't know how to tweak their computers for an optimal gaming experience so maybe you should update your app and advertise it heavily both in game and on the forum.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.
