Clock time in AH
« on: September 13, 2023, 09:37:08 PM »
I'm trying to calculate the duration of a bombing mission I went on, take off time was 16:00 hrs.   Landed at 06:35, but at some point during the flight, the clock reset to 0600 hrs.   Does anybody know how late the the night gets before reseting to morning?

In other words, at what clock time in the evening does the reset to morning occur?  I think its somewhere around 18:30, but I'm not sure.    If it was 18:30, I'd have a duration of 3:05 (18:30 - 16:00, + 00:35)

Felt like the longest mission I've flown - had enemy fighters tailing me the the majority of the time; at least it felt that way!

I think in the MA it's something like three AH minutes every minute.

That’s true, but I mean game time duration, not real time.

I checked the arena time settings but didn’t see anything about a reset-to-dawn time.  But at some point after game time 1800 hrs, the game clock jumps forward to 0600.

I was curious so I made myself available online today to watch the change.  Some notes:

- Game clock runs 3x faster than real world clock

- Game sundown occurs at approximately 18:30hrs (at sea level)

- Dusk/Night occurs between 18:30 - 18:45hrs

- A little after 18:45, the game clock is reset to 06:00hrs

- I missed the exact moment, but I estimate Sunrise occurs at approximately 06:10hrs.  So the period of Dawn, occurs between 06:00 - 06:10hrs

So my bomber mission, which took off at 16:00 and landed the next morning at 06:35, had a running time of about 3:20 in terms of the game clock.  I do think that was my longest duration mission so far.

So, do I get it right when saying that your mission took you just over 1 hour in 'real' time?

That’s correct, Lusche.  But it felt longer than that, as my duties include plotting the course to target on my track charts, and I was also kept busy in the guns by enemy fighters.  My tail gunners had no ammo left when I landed, but they had knocked down 4.

Interesting to look back at my earlier mission tarck charts - I have been flying theses missions and keeping close track of mission details for almost two years now.   Closing in on 150 sorties soon…

That mission happened to be assigned to Satan’s Lady from the 306thBG.  She’s a new addition and this was her first combat.

That’s correct, Lusche.

Wow, I'm kinda surprised - I always thought of one hour being not particularly long for a bombing mission. My longest ever took me 3 hours 34 minutes from takeoff to landing, a low level HE 111 strategic attack on the relocated factories on TAGMA map. I got almost 5 perks for it

My average mission duration in B-24s and B-17s in the past 11 years is about 1 hour, in B-29 it's 01:24. All bomber models combined, it's 49 minutes. That's where my surprise resulted from.

:old: I love that kind of stuff!
I, myself, am keeping very detailed logs of all my bomber missions since September 2012 - duration, type, altitude, destroyed targets and more, for 2979 combat missions so far.  And of course charts... lots of charts....  :D

Oboe, I'll have to check on line, but the Arena Tables will list the duration of the night, that should give you the information you need. :salute

I thought some of that information would be in the online arena tables. :aok
Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.

Dark hours in the MA is when you can find 30% less in flight on each country.  I don't have a pie chart, I just watch the map dry up.  Not that it matters.  I'd love for someone to prove my not proven observations wrong.
