I would if I could, but I doubt they'd let me as I just had surgery and the meds that go with it a little over 2 weeks ago.  I have tainted blood at the moment.    :(

Also, don't just give blood today and think that's it.  They can get the plasma out and keep it for awhile, but the red blood cells only last a couple of weeks at most.  Bloodbanks need regular donations, not just mass donations in times like these.

I'd like to re-iterate that the Red Cross needs your blood ALL the time.  Not just in cases like these.  If you give blood because of this...  please go back in 4-6 weeks and donate again.  Donate regularly, especially if you are a universal donor (O neg), though type specific blood is needed as well.

I have a sad feeling, given the nature of the attack, that the need for blood won't be as great as we would hope. It's still a good idea regardless.

Charon most of the injured are burn victims from what I understand.  I believe these types of injuries need require alot of blood for proper treatment.

O+N- ARE NEEDED. Zig don't give up, if you want, call ahead, American red cross will set up appointment for you. They ALWAYS take donars with appoitments first. I have been giving blood since I was 18 yrs. Have donated almost 3 galons so far.

I understand totally skernsk, and its a good idea to donate now and regularly in the future. Even though I'm getting married in four days, leaving the country on a homeymoon (maybe) in five, and trying to get an article finished and other stuff done in between I will still make the effort.

It's just seems likely that the injured rolls are not going to grow very much beyond where they are now as they start working through the rubble.
