This is an adoption of Fencer's original skin.
P-400(export version of the P-39D built to RAF specs) of the 6th Independent Fighter Squadron, Soviet Air Force (6 IAE VVS). This plane is often attributed to pilot, Yuri Penakov. All of the very limited reference on this scheme says it was in/on the "Northern Front" which is a total misnomer. The confusion comes from that fact that the soviets use the word "front" as their largest independent military organization while in the West we use it to define where the opposing sides meet. So, it could be a geographic term referencing front line along the Soviet - Finnish border area. But that area was under the command of the Soviet Karelian Front. It could also be a misprint in a reference to the Soviet Northwestern Front, whose operational area was between Moscow and Leningrad. None of the VVS reference sites I'm familiar with have a listing for 6 IAE, so that's also a dead end.
This P-400 features a winter whitewash applied over the original RAF camouflage. RAF markings were over-painted with Soviet paints. The red stars on the whitewash were bordered in yellow for contrast. The whitewash was also seen to be wearing off quickly on the control surfaces.
