Real shame more don't try MNM and see how much fun a limited planeset can be

Thanks Jaeger1!

Agreed.. it is fun.

The MA is the MA though, and forcing people into something they don't care for would probably kill this game.

I think you'd get further by doing monthly incentives for kills or achievements for those hangar queens on a monthly basis.

I'd donate money per month to support whatever the prize was for something like this.

If a couple dozen people threw some change in a pot and the reward was right, it might be enough to encourage SOME CHANGE, without forcing it down peoples throats.

That requires consistency with MA MOTD's and some work on the backend that someone would have to pony up and do.  Unlikely.

I'm tempted to put the furball island back up with a limited plane set but I doubt anybody would use it.

Should be free to play with early rides. Pay for perks to get later planes or pony up the $15 for full access like it is now.

The more I’ve read this thread, the more I wonder why HT even posted it. If Skyyr really changed his stripes and was going to be a good boi, why bother giving him the name back and telling any of us? Just let him fly under a pseudonym and let it go. As far as I can tell, ego is what got him (Skyyr) banned in the first place. If he’s really changed why does he need to be Skyyr?

Man, what a great idea to get an infusion of new blood. By what I've been reading, it's pretty sparse in the MA these days. Back in AW days at AOL, a positive effect occurred with the half-time or semi-realistic arenas. They got be packed to the gills with folks taking advantage of the all-you-eat pricing. Eventually a bunch of them trickled over to the full-realism arenas looking for a new challenge and the hardened old-timers in FR had fresh dweeb blood to consume and splatter while the dweebs matriculated to un-dweeb status. Good times were had.

Private arenas are always treated with scepticism. We've tried that for extended periods. People don't like this setting or that and especially don't like players controlling an arena. Should be hosted by HTC as an alternate and human-populated arena to the MA. Got rid of the furball lake but kept Steal The Sheep on the main page. FFS.

Not sure how attractive your offer of roll-up-and-fly-uncompetitive-aeroplanes-for-free-and-be-cannon-fodder-for-the-vets would be for prospective players. Maybe it would work as a gateway drug  :rofl

No doubt get lynched for this remark and alienate some people I respect (who justifiably have complaints). The Dale-God-Entity ought to be less passive than simply making an announcement and then leaving the thread open but he did say that everyone deserves a second chance. Perhaps we could join in the spirit of that declaration and focus on the present and not the past.  :bolt:

Hello Mr. Tongue… meet Mrs. Cheeks! lol  :aok

I sort of said this about 10 pages ago and got yelled at.
Back in 2022 after a loooooong break from 2010. Old name Ratpack, same for the BBS.

Squad I did the most tours with were the Excaliburs then The 172nd Rabid Dogs. Still trying to talk Illigaf, Coola, Oldman22, and Joecrow into coming back instead of being boring old farts!

free to play planes to be lambs for a slaughter sounds like a bad idea for all involved.
- new players get their heads bashed in before they can learn anything and even if they do learn/know something - are hopelessly outclassed by vets in superior rides
- old players are degraded to "club the seal" game and i don't know about you, but killing newbies ( even in late war planes ) is no challenge/fun for myself.

secondly, i don't think 15$ a month is a such a huge barrier. To play sims people spend thousands on desktop/VR hardware/GPU. For sim enthusiasts, 15$ a month likely isn't a challenge. I would say that currently it is outdated graphics that are simply pushing people away.

as much as i love idea of rolling plane set, it was tried in practice in WB and it did kill the game. First 2 weeks of the month when early war was being played - there was nobody in the arena.

The timeline was changed for 2 days before RTP and map stays, if I remember, 2 weeks. IMHO biggest reason for players to disappear were hacks and then consequences when hackers were driven out.

I would recommend different approach - make a map that is divided in 3 separate sections, with 100000ft mountains between them to keep "transfers" out. Early war planes in one section, mid second late last. Put some strategic targets in each, so that if you want to whack radar factory, you just have to pick up He 111 ;)

Not sure if that would work, but maybe worth a try ?

That might work. Just wonder how many point greedy überkitepinger will demote themselves to fly something under 400mph, but for my kind of easy kill it sounds good. AIs which are present in match arena are just too hard nuts at least for my skills.

As being in receiving end, it's not fun either. Kills motivation when pinged down in almost every flight before getting anything done.

I doubt if it pushes old players away, but may really make new ones to go after some eye candy. For me, AH graphics are just fine. Especially after WB they are superb.

I've got a novel suggestion: how about we leave the past in the past and just enjoy the fact there are still worthy oppoenets still around.

you're old :) but in all seriousness, when i fire up DCS in VR, i can fly for an hour just to intake the views. Gap is huge. For new player, with no emotional attachment to WB/AH/insert old sim here - choice is simple. They will gravitate to newer games.

Heyyy, I'm just 63 years young..!   :old:  ...   :D   and I ordered TrackIR. Let's see what effect it has, for a young guy like me. Should arrive for Xmas. VR is not an option, because in boomers must use keyboard commands.

My son tanks in War Thunder and Enlisted. In those graphics are in a totally different level. I tank and sometimes fly in IL-2 and they are better as well but not so much I'd abandon AH. Biggest difference, IMO, is uneven terrain. As old player, in my case, it's the age, not how long I've been here. Relatively newcomer equipped with noobie level dogfight skills and reaction time calculated with calendar.    :joystick:

Voice Attack.  A Must have. Even when I fly non-VR Apache I need it.  Too much complexity to map everything on stick, and too much going on to hunt and peck at a keyboard under fire at or below tree-top level. ;)

One of the best things AH does imo is icons and spotting planes b4 the icons appear...

Both dcs and il2 suck at it in comparison

If I could see the enemies better I might play them more

I installed a 55in 4k tv and ran dsc through it to see of it helped spotting but it didn't

My assisting softfurware is limiting some options. Stall limiter Roy and AimCat Ria. They are sometimes causing some unwanted and peculiar aerobatics. And voice commands work poorly with them.   😼
