I've always felt it was only a matter of time before the sight and sound of these planes would be forever removed from the sound track of our lives. It's for that reason I try to make it a point to get to the WW2 Days airshow in Reading, PA when I can. Just to hear them flying around for a day. The foundation birds were regulars there. This is just another tick on the clock. A shame.

Anyone remotely familiar with vintage aircraft, especially Military war birds knew this would eventually happen. While the planes were built with the tech of the time you cannot prevent fatigue of the components eventually getting critical, nor can you prevent substandard maintenance without direct and constant supervision and inspection.

Fortunately we have many hours of video and film for at least a vicarious experience.
