The whole 2d 3d VR naming convention is rather confusing.
You had 2d games like pong, pacman, castlevania, Super Mario Brothers.
You had 2d/3d Games like Battlezone, Air Warrior, Air Warrior II, Doom.
Then you had 3D accelerated games like Air warrior III, Quake, half Life.
Then you have 3d games that do true 3d VR like Aces High III, DCS, Il2, No mans sky.
And lastly you have VR only 3d titles like Half Life Alyx, Arizona Sunshine II and such.
Right now a lot of us just stick to Flat-screen/Pancake for monitor 2d and 3d games and VR for full 3d VR games.
