History of "Click Click"

Been wondering were did "CC" or "Click Click" originate and what is the history of it.

From what I know the Double Mic Click or "Click Click" as some call it, was used in WWII by Pilots to send an Acknowledgement when they really didn't have time to talk.

It was also used by Field Radio Operators during Korea and Vietnam as well, especially when the radio operator couldn't really talk.

I have hears stories of Radio Operators using Morse code radio clicks to call for fire when they had enemy patrols all around them.

We here in combat flight sims use "CC" in text to send acknowledgements.

I can still find it mentioned on forums and discussion boards by and for IRL pilots.

Any one know any more on the history of "Click Click"?

I always thought it meant "copy," although I understand it was originally "carbon copy."

It's not just historical. Pilots, while they would never use the double click to acknowledge an ATC transmission will often use it on a discreet channel in discussion with another airplane.

LoL.  Carbon copy.  I miss those school old school mimeograph machines.  You'd get you pop quiz paper still damp off the press and solvent smelled like banana.

Probably gave all cancer.

The keying of the hand mic twice was always a thing in my 24 years in the army. I was armored Cavalry inside tanks and stuff....Usually getting thrown all about it... someone would call me and say something. The quickest easiest way to reply was two clicks of the hand mic, just so they know I heard him.

I was Infantry (11b) my first platoon radio man told me about the double click (The only time I ever heard about it until AW) and I didn't hear about calling for fire with morse code mic clicks until PLDC That was like 30+ years ago. The oldest and most detailed stories about the origins of the double mic click came from Air Warriors that were real pilots (Specially Military pilots) like Damned Renegade.
