Happy August 6th

On this date 1945 my Father was on Okinawa Assigned to landing craft. He lived and slept a shore. He said It was the only place he knew where it could be raining and the sun shining. the other thing, he said was a guy opened up in the next foxhole with a M1. carbine and it ran away emptying whole mag on the infiltrator. It wasn't till after the war he found out his older brother Ed was there on an aircraft carrier.
My last conversation With Ed was about the Kamikaze's and they scared the crap out of him. Seventy years later it was clear the fear he felt Our losses where heavy, and the Navy took the heaviest beating.
So, they dropped the Bomb and there was no invasion of Japan

Rest in peace all those who fought there

My dad was born in 1930.  He was 15 years old in the early summer of 1945, and certain beyond any doubt that he was going to get drafted and die fighting in Japan.  The day he heard about the atomic bomb being used on Hiroshima, he felt as if his life had been saved.  He knew the war was over soon.
