Scott Bloomquist Plane Crash
« on: August 16, 2024, 04:23:59 PM »
Idk if any of you follow dirt track racing, but my favorite driver of all time, Scott Bloomquist, died this morning in a plane crash. Link says “vintage” plane.  One of the pictures I saw of him had some type of WW1 era biplane in it (I’m not too familiar with those airframes).

All reports say he was piloting a Piper J-3 cub.

I haven’t had a chance to search any reports. Heck, I didn’t even know the guy flew.  Thanks for looking Busher.

As they say, a Cub can just barely kill you.

My local newspaper article said it was a J-3 and impact with a barn. I'm wondering if he didn't get a bad crosswind and tried to do a go around.

When I did my PPL in 1963, I flew J3's, PA11's, and when available the school's 1 Luscombe 8E. The J3 was fun - when the wind was strong enough, you could take off, climb to circuit height, fly backwards down the runway, then descend to the threshold and land. Only when the CFI wasn't watching!
