snap shots ish?
« on: August 27, 2024, 05:23:29 PM »
Hi all,
i am working with some of the other players trying to put together something for some quick fun that we can keep logs of.
we've come up with a snap shot like idea with tactical goals. the idea is for it to only last an hour or so. just wondering if theres any interest in
something like this?

we're also wondering what time would be best for people. we were thinking 9pm EST on thursdays but i recommended 8pm EST.

please let us know what you think. thanks --jaeger1

Lusche can come with the meta but with my anecdotal tracking Wed-Thur are the slower weeknights. Monday and Friday are usually similar depending on FSO pre-gamers. Tuesday I think is a slower night like midweek but the D’weed squad usually sways the numbers a bit.
Back in 2022 after a loooooong break from 2010. Old name Ratpack, same for the BBS.

Squad I did the most tours with were the Excaliburs then The 172nd Rabid Dogs. Still trying to talk Illigaf, Coola, Oldman22, and Joecrow into coming back instead of being boring old farts!

Here's a premise of the "Campaign" idea would look like:

Premise:
-          A fast-paced event, that brings the fight & strategy immediately into the players hands.
-          Using historical and fictional events, create an event that will feature air spawns, multiple forms of combat, and be designed to be fun for the minimal amount of players.
-          An element of the old AvA wars comes into play, with a progression style model for the winners and the losers for each frame. Whether that is taking the initiative, objectives changing, or the loss of air frames from frame to frame. Awarding of Medals/Ribbons unique to participation within those frames. Possible RPG elements coming into later events(?)
-          Frame Length = 30 - 60 minutes. Quick, fast paced.
-          Air Spawns – Vary from location and altitude. 1-2 Minutes from the fight, allowing for quick action immediately in the combat area.

- The progression would show a change of objective dependent on the success or failure of the previous frames.
- The idea of random missions presented to the commanders within the frames to allow for thought on adjusting the plan on the fly so to speak.

- Alt Caps specific for the event.

- Timers on success or failure of an objective(Typically attacking) to force combat/action. Ie. Need 2 hangers down by T+15.

- Range of events go from historical, to fictional. Also a range of objectives from specific targets, to taking a base.

I see where you are coming from,,,, When 68Raptor and I ran Snapshots many mooons ago both sides had 1 Objective and each side was scored accordingly. And they were 1 event only Deals.... But also back then we had more players then in the ava Like you had mentioned. All these events were made for 1 purpose and 1 only to see who could obtain the most accomplished Goals, just like FSO back in the Day where ya only had one life and then had to Gun for the Buff's Maybe Jaeger has a good ideal on trying to bring back an Ol Past Time and that it wouldn't be modeled after the AvA unless I am missing something, but the Ava never had logs ran and Snapshots Do

just like that investment Commercial,,,,,,, Thats my 2 Cents

Honestly, I only still subscribe for MNM, FSO, and scenarios. Just like to see another event grow that's not as long as an FSO, but offer some type of tactical/strategic planning. I believe it would be fun

FSO could have grown by 1 player this week, no replies on 200 to my interest to fly it.

This week or last? No FSO this week.

Was logged into the MA last Friday night, showed interest and no takers.

Flew a couple more sorties in the rather stale situation in the arena and then logged out.

If you guys recruited players a little more like scenarios you might get some growth out of it.

If I've been here 20+ years, pretty decently behaved and skilled in the game, still can't find a seat, something is wrong.

I'd highly suggest going with the walkon approach this this event if you'd like to slow the decline or possibly see some growth.

Well, it's a squad based event so I can't really recruit for anyone but my squad. Which we do.

FSO has been pretty walk-on friendly for years now. As long as you're in uniform by go time you can fly, and someone in SEA1 would surely take you in so long as it isn't 11:03pm est.

Everyone is in a squad for scenarios though right?  I think the approach  taken there is probably a little better for growth of the event than the current.  I might fly 1 a month tops, so it's really no skin off my back.  Just sharing some thoughts and an experience I had.

Yes, but Scenario squads are made up for the event based on historical elements and the people who are in that squad are only assuming the identity for that event.

FSO just takes squads from the MA (for the most part) and allows them to fly in their same squad but in the more historical setting. Some squads are more open to taking walk-ons than others. Some, like KN, fly exclusively on the Axis side, so that narrows down the base for us to recruit from.

Next time you want to fly I'd just head to the SEA 10-15 mins before and someone will likely scoop you up. Allies are always Bishop, and Axis are always Knights.

Will try that next time.  I'll share that in the MA too and see if anyone else trys it.

Never had any problem with joining random squads for FSO. Just showed up and asked if anyone needed a pilot. But I always asked in the FSO arena and showed up 10 minutes early.
