I generally limit my frame rate with g-sync but for performance tests to see where bottlenecks are it's off. 2560x1440 is good for me but if I were always running less demanding apps I'd consider 4K.

I'm in the same boat, 1440p is plenty good for me. 4k would also be nice. But: It wouldn't fit on my desk! In my opinion (and it's just mine) if you can't see individual pixels or rather the pixel grid with your reading glasses the resolution is tight enough and this 32" screen requires a magnifying glass for me to see the grid. Or having two pairs of reading glasses on top of each other, +1.5 and +1.0 combined show a faint hint of the grid. Thus 4k wouldn't make much difference in this size, I should go up to some 40" to get the most of the better image quality. Less would be pearls to pigs.

I've got an older system by today's standards that still runs the game well by my standards.

Higher the res the smaller the target has been my experience

More pixels in the same space may make objects smaller but not necessarily. It depends on the app.

I think app/game FOV settings play into this as well.

They do.

DCS players had complained that at high resolutions distant planes, just dots, were smaller than for lower resolutions. That was true until they changed it. The reason is that a distant dot was defined as only a few pixels rather than size. Since lower resolutions have bigger pixels it made distant objects larger. They did change this behavior so that a distant object occupies the same amount of monitor space for high res as it does low.

AH still shows the difference..

Prettier but smaller..at least the icon text size can be adjusted

.

Size the screen to your playing distance and preferred resolution?

I used most of the different brands over the years. I'm happy with the Dell I use now as my primary monitor.
