Corsair Keyboard and other USB devices

I love the Corsair keyboards. I've bought 3 of the buggers over the years.

But, they can and do interfere with other USB devices. Doesn't matter whether iCue is running or the keyboard flashed with the settings and thus standalone.

I can jockey the devices around moving the error below to different USB devices.

Just venting since I can work around this but if you've found a fix please share.

Just ordered a Red Dragon Keyboard. Not being able to see the windows functionality of various USB controllers is not really a problem until something doesn't work right and you need to troubleshoot. Or setting up a new Arduino controller. Odd that windows says there's a problem and won't show you the properties but the controller will still function properly in whatever game.

I've had my K95 for a bunch of years now and another model prior to that, I can't say I've ever had issues with other USB peripherals. I have always used icue as well.

The odd thing as I mentioned is it doesn't interfere with my controllers other than in the windows setup app. Did some research and many have had troubles with the USB headsets. If you have a joystick and throttle check the set up usb controllers app and see if you can view the properties of all.

Just wondering how many USB devices are connected directly to your motherboard. The ports can only deliver so much power and if everything comes through the mobo you may run out of juice. Agreed, there's many USB ports on every mobo and a few on the case as well, but at least those that are paired side by side share the same power resource. Further, the front panel connectors usually share resources with some of the back panel ones.

Oh, and it's possible that there's some failure in the motherboard so it can't fully deliver what the power supply has to offer. Also, the USB Controller drivers may require updating especially if they're the generic ones by Microsoft. Mine seem to be as fresh as April this year.

A powered USB hub can be the remedy for lack of power. A USB3 version is a better choice since they can transfer much more data than the older versions. For a hub the flavour of USB3 doesn't matter much as even the slowest can transfer ten times the data of USB2.

I have an addin usb card and two externally powered hubs. I've tried a lot of different connection variations. These are my USB controllers. All will work except one. And the one will vary. New keyboard tomorrow. I'll confirm if it is the K100 or not. Before I added the two Arduinos it was always the Warthog Throttle (not connected now) that gave the error.

4-5 years ago I bought a Logitech USB wireless headset. I had a Corsair K95 keyboard then. The headset kept dropping connecting while in use. I gave up and bought a wired HyperX headset. I always thought it was the headset. Maybe not.

I run the K95 at work and at home and have never had that issue.

I just uninstalled the icue software and swapped keyboards. The problem is gone. I can now see the properties of all my USB devices. Maybe it's a function of how many devices before the Corsair conflicts.

I love the Corsair keyboards but time to let them go.

Now that I think on it I used to have trouble with the Deltasim slew mod I put in my Warthog throttle. Every now and then it would lose cal and the only way I could get it working again was to put the original back in, cal, then swap, cal again. I finally tracked down the specific reg entry for that and removed permissions so it could not be changed. Now I'm wondering if the K95 was causing a conflict resulting in that registry key to be assigned to the wrong device and thus getting an invalid change.

I reconnected the K100 and the problem is back. That settles it for me.

Now that you said it's a K100 I found this from Anandtech's review:

the keyboard's power requirements technically exceed the capacity of a USB 2.0 port, so if the keyboard isn't hooked up to a more powerful USB 3.0 (or later) port, Corsair needs to pull power from a second port.

Now if the second port is side by side with the first one there may not be any extra power available. Below or above might be another thing. But if the keyboard is connected to one of your powered hubs - and supposing they really can deliver the power needed  - power outage doesn't sound like the culprit.

I reconnected the K100 and the problem is back. That settles it for me.

It actually has two connectors. I've tried the MB ports, external powered hubs, and my addon card. Don't think it's a power issue. Was having some odd things with the Arduinos other than the Windows set up app not reading a controller. DCS would swap them sometimes. By that I mean the controls I mapped to one would be switched to the other and of course since they aren't configured the same wouldn't work. I thought maybe that was because I power them off when not in use and the power on sequence may be causing that. Now I think it is the keyboard.
