Bird Wilson's Hurricane

This Hawker Hurricane Mk I was flown by 17 Squadron's F/O Harold Bird Wilson during the Battle of Britain. It had an unusual wavy demarcation line on the leading edges of the wings and artwork depicting three flaming swords pointing at a Luftwaffe eagle.

Harold Bird Wilson joined the RAF in 1937, flying Gauntlet biplanes before transitioning to Hurricanes in 1939. Shortly after the war began he suffered terrible burns from a plane crash that required plastic surgery and a false nose. Despite this he returned to the squadron in April 1940 and shot down six enemy aircraft during the Battle of Britain before he suffered shrapnel wounds to the head after becoming Adolf Galland's 40th victim. After recovering and a period training new pilots he returned to active flying again, later commanding Spitfire squadrons, fighter wings and in 1945 the RAF's first jet conversion unit. In the process he scored a further five kills before the end of the war. He continued in the RAF post-war, eventually retiring in 1974.

Holy smokes! I sat out a high school baseball tournament once because of an in-grown toe nail on my landing foot. That's slightly less worse than horrific burns and a faux nose I know but still....this guy was one tough hombre.

The skin is fantastic as well, btw. Another great job. You skin wizards are amazing and keep this sim amazing.
