This is an adoption of Krusty's original.
Bf 109E-4 of 2./JG 3 based at St. Omer, France in October 1940. The all yellow tail is speculation based on a few representations of this aircraft. Being that the reference photo shows yellow as the same shade of light gray as the underside blue, it is impossible to tell if it was indeed yellow or all light blue. So I elected to retain the yellow as seen on Krusty's skin.
However, I did make one correction to Krusty's work; the side number was changed from red to black. While Krusty no doubt was basing his work on published profiles, there is no evidence of this squadron ever using red numbers in 1940 and plenty of photos of Emils with black digits. It may have been based on the belief that the color of the "Tatzelwurm" emblem on the nose matched the digits, but that only applied to 1st (white) and 3rd (yellow) Staffeln in JG 3. For 2nd Staffel, it is clear that the Tatzelwurm is red and the numbers are black.
Other markings are yellow wing tips applied in August 1940 and the yellow cowling used beginning in September. The prop spinner was black and white and tipped in red.
