Tariffs taking effect
« on: April 15, 2025, 07:38:43 AM »
Ordered a set of pedals from China and got this today..

"Important Shipping Update – Drop-Shipping Suspension Starting April 28 (CN Time)

We’ve received notice from VKB HQ in China that due to the upcoming end of the U.S. de minimis duty-free threshold (effective May 2), all drop-shipping from China will be temporarily suspended starting April 28 (China time).

This measure is being taken proactively to avoid unexpected customs duties or delivery issues as the new trade regulations go into effect."

Heard Razer pulled their laptops from US stores..

No one has committed to that, back up your words. Who?
75% who had bonds and sold them and no longer trust the usa. NO company can make ANY commitment when the future is unpredictable.

Nvidia already has a plant here, its not new.

This is hog wash.
It takes 2-6 yrs to move a company and dial it in again.

I live within 2 miles of 2 multi-billion dollar semiconductor plants opening this year. Nvidia did indeed say they will open 500 billion dollar plants in Dallas and Houston. Why so sad?

Is there an actual set of numbers that show what it would increase by if it was still shipable, or is it just chinese knee jerk fallout?

Its sold in other places that companies are moving to the US because of tariffs, they sold nvidia was moving here for same reason. Fact is as I stated, none committed to that move, nvidia has always had factories here, they are expanding not moving here from somewhere else.

Their expansions won’t be done within a year, unless its already in construction. Even then expect 2 yrs to be up and running. If its already built it just furthers my point tariffs didn’t drive it. This makes it irrelevant to the current pricing/tariff issue. Especially when what they are making probably isn’t consumed by the public. Jobs yes, parts for PCs not so much.

That said, most are moving to robotics over humans.

Honda is moving their production of Civics from Canada and Mexico to the US. Of course people in the US are accustomed to better salaries here than those in China, Mexico, and most other places. Naturally higher salaries mean higher prices. That is a price we must pay to move and keep manufacturing jobs here.

Honda confirmed yesterday that the report was inaccurate and that they are remaining in Canada:
