What happened to country music?
« on: August 10, 2025, 06:18:29 PM »
98.73% of country radio sucks these days. There are a few artists staying true to the genre, but most of it is ultra processed crap.

Here’s one of my favorite tunes from IMHO one of the greatest country singers of all time.

Please flood this thread with your favorite country songs both new and old :salute

Everyone decided that singing about how either their wife left, their dog ran away, running out of beer, or their truck broke down wasnt bringing in the numbers anymore

The last 20 years of Nashville country has been all about party music. It’s been almost sickening.

Here’s one of my favorite Red Dirt artist’s take on the topic

Seeing Shaboozey on the country music awards was the final nail in the coffin for me. Me and Hank cried that night.

Thank goodness for YouTube.

I KNOW I'm the odd freak about this... but I'm STILL pissed off they let that Kristofferson clown on stage with them (or anything else).  Never could stand him, never will, and I don't care what he ever did.  And not just because he can't carry a tune in a bucket.  I always feel like I need a shower just from seeing his image.   :bolt:

Wow! don't hold back, tell us how you really feel. I never had an opinion of him either way, other then he was obviously the least talented of the bunch. What made you such a hater?

I really don't know.  Could be the image of him shirtless while pawing at Streisand... I mean the all around gag factor is real.

Cash may have felt the same. If you notice when came time for his part he waves chris away from his light

I always wondered where he came from. Glad he didn’t sing the whole song. Does he even have a hit?

Lucky for me I missed that one. Couple things of note.
He was in films:
A Star Is Born (1976, with Barbra Streisand) Guessing this is where you saw the thing that made you blind! lolz
Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973)
Convoy (1978)
Blade trilogy (1998–2004)

He was a big fan of Johnny Cash.

He was an army ranger and helicopter pilot.

He wrote these songs:
“Me and Bobby McGee” (made famous by Janis Joplin)

“Help Me Make It Through the Night”

“Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down” (made famous by Johnny Cash)
