VKB Gladiator question
« on: February 07, 2026, 03:32:42 PM »
What do you guys have assigned to the F1 F2 F3 buttons? What about the lower 3 swivels?  What about the upper left A1 mini stick?

I use the mini stick as my hat switches since the other two hats are 4-way only. A4 I have programmed to elevator trim and downpress is combat trim. Haven't really found a use for the F buttons or bottom switches, but I also have the STECS Standard which has 7,000 buttons so most of my stuff is programmed to that.

I use the middle (F1) as my mode toggle between modes 1 and 4 to get up views on the 8-way hat switch (A1 mini-stick)  mode 1 is look around and mode 4 are look around/up views.  The 8-way hat was slightly off centered which is why I had to calibrate - no issues since.

Left side F2 is my map toggle

I haven't figured a use for the right side F3 just yet (new stick and all)

The left lower "swivel" - mine is self-centering and has a nub - I use it for flaps up/down

The middle (Slider) is the throttle.

The right lower swivel I have set for elev trim up/dwn - it's just a rotating wheel both ways.

I use the top right hat (A4) for my auto pilot stuff and the press for damage report

I use the middle hat (A3) for eng toggle, dive flaps, gear and tailhook with the press being wep.

I use the lower side hat for level bombing stuff (still figuring this out)

The other buttons and triggers are for guns/zoom and ord selection/fire.  The speedfire trigger are my guns and the regular trigger is for check 6's.

I think I have a fairly logical and useful setup, but I'm still figuring it out...

Haven't set mode 2/3 for gunning and GV's yet, but i'm sure it will pretty much all be on the stick with left over slots.

I have TM rudder pedals and have the twisty function disabled.

Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.

Just remember as well you can add an attachment to the side of the VKB joystick to add more buttons and stuff.  It attaches to the joystick both physically, and electronically so no need for another USB port.

Here is an example of one of them.

Yeah, did that and spent another $25 for the BF109-like throttle handle:

love it. Now to find the time to use the setup....
