VR buyers guide
« on: June 05, 2026, 01:44:20 PM »
I hope this helps.  These  VRs all have different lenses.    All are good but have different ways of making them work in VR.

First it is very important you know what VR(if any) your PC is suitable.

Quest 3  is the most common used VR.  Good quality.  A good choice for moderate PCs.  About $600 plus figure in the possible need for additional straps, and power for longer play.

Crystal Light requires more PC performance than the Q3 but has a higher video resolution using LEDs instead of the Q3 LCDs..  About $900.  Sound is not it's best point but Video is the reason it is  well used.

PSVR2 is a lower end but good value headset especially if you have a PlayStation.  Uses Qled panels but lower resolution.  Requires a different setup for PC.  Maybe a AH player using PSVR2 could comment on this headset.

BigScreen Beyond  is the first of the lighter headsets.  Much, much lighter and smaller than the CL.  QLED panels feature best colors and contrast.  About $1000-$1200.  For sound and Mic you need a headset or added in headstrap with audio.

Pimax Dream Air SE(Cheaper version of Dream Air) is roughly the same in quality as BSB but has had a rough launch this month.

If you have the latest, best PC equipment, and a wad of money consider these.
Pimax Super or Dream Air.

Steam has a new VR in the works.  Best I can tell it is  a step up  from the Q3 but has not been released.

It's a shame they charge that much for a headset with no mic or speakers.

Which one are you talking about? I took a look at the specs for some of those mentioned and they featured built-in audio.

BigScreen beyond does not have audio.

Ahh yes, should've read better.

Then again, they do sell the audio strap separately and it's relatively inexpensive. Is the audio on par with the image quality? IMHO if the image is the best on the market, freedom to choose the audio accordingly can be considered a plus. Some prefer over-ear headphones, some like on-ear ones and some like earplugs. Not to mention those using speakers. For the highest price tag a mediocre integrated audio system may not be the best selling argument.

Audio has always been a weakness of VR.  The audio is usually good but short of a reasonably priced audio headset.  Oddly though the mic is usually very good for games like AH.

PC horsepower is what you have to watch out so you do not have to add PC hardware to your budget.

On a side note, used Quest 2s can be found on Marketplace for $50–100 all day long. I own a few different VR headsets from various brands, and the Quest 2 is easily the best bang for the buck if you're looking for an inexpensive way to get into VR.

It's about 90% as good as the $1,000+ headsets for roughly one-tenth the price. You can run it wired with a single USB cable, and it works surprisingly well on low-end hardware. You don't even really need a dedicated graphics card.

I'm currently running one with a ROG Ally handheld playing Aces High using the built-in Radeon 760M GPU (roughly comparable to a GTX 1050), and it's been a great experience.

Owning and using both a quest 2 and a pimax Crystal Light I find the above statement true..

They are pushed by 4070 based cards and enjoy both in AH MA ..

Add the DPVR E4 Black to your list.
Think of it as a Quest3 S with 0 lag and no add ons like battery or straps for comfort. I had a quest 3S and invested for a cable for power and direct USB connect.  I returned it for this headset and have been very happy with it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DMF5GF5F?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1&th=1
