Bloom25...and others help
« on: January 15, 2002, 11:33:43 PM »
Dragon lady has p3 600MHz...... put in new MB and 1700+ Amd cpu.. went booting I get a stop error.... inaccessable boot device..... I put a blank drive in to test and loaded win2k ok and it boots fine.... how can I get an existing system to coexist with the new cpu?  tryed "fixboot" to no avail.... something between AMD and Intel? I'm trying not to have to reload her whole infrastructure of programs........

It's not an AMD - Intel problem, it's just the fact that Microsoft Windows 2000 requires you to reinstall if you switch out a motherboard.  :(

No good way around that I'm afraid.

Not exactly sure if this is the case, but if you are getting an error before windows tries to load, and it sounds like that might be the case, you have a problem in addition to the chipset drivers in windows not working.

Are you sure the disk is correctly detected, and that it is set to boot from the hard drive in the BIOS?  You should be able to boot... and then get all sorts of problems. :)

If not booting from cd... (booting from HD) posts and everything.. starts to load w2k and bamo.... "stop error, inaccesable boot device"....  I tryed "fixboot" and "fixmbr" niether did any good....

Hardware OK as I loaded w2k on a clean disk and it flew.... its a w2k problem as Bloom & Skuzzy say.... got me convinced.... should be some way around it.....
