In Friday the Finnish winter convention, Urban Blitz 2002, will launch! The winter event of the Finnish virtual pilots is this year larger than ever - almost 50 people registered and are coming to the convention. What a huge number for our "little" winter event, which has always been the little sister of the summer event Mosquito Meeting.
The event will bring together pilots from many virtual online communities, and have pilots of WarBirds, Aces High, World War II Online, CFS2, EAW and IL-2 share a weekend with common fun - aviation. The Finnish online pilots are a proof that we are one and we share the same hobby, whatever simulation we fly, unlike many who try to spread anger and discord claim.
As usual we don't have a too strict program. A speech or lecture or two, flying, H2H ladder, lots of flying and plentiful beer supply.
The great thing is that we have a lot of amazing visitors coming. We hope. Invitation to visit Urban Blitz has been sent to the Finnish war pilots' organization Pilvenveikot (Fellows of the clouds), and many local veteran pilots. We have 100% confirmation from four or five WW2 war pilots, and have thumbs up that even more of the old gentlemen will honor us. What a wonderful evening THAT will be, so many real war pilots among us, looking at us, us looking at them and hopefully talking much, much about flying and other things.
Imagine the day. The vets among us, beer, cider and booze, sauna and flying, crazy finns in the Häjyt style. What will it be like?

But the convention will start with a sad note. Our delegation will participate in the burial of one of the greatest Finnish heroes, colonel Jorma "Joppe" Karhunen. Mr. Karhunen will be buried in Friday 1100 with full military honors, with the Finnish war pilots escorting their fallen kamrade to his last flight to the shadow squadron. Colonel Karhunen, one of the great aces of Finland and World War II with 32 confirmed victories and author of 37 books concerning mainly Finnish Air War in WW2, died recently. The Virtual Pilots Finland society and us virtual pilots are honored to give last farewell to the great man, who has inspired so many of us into aviation.
