TOD: Big Show - Frame 2 AARs
« on: February 02, 2002, 12:37:21 AM »
Well I am tired and have to get up early tomorrow so this is going to be short and sweet.

The Nightmares VMF-101 were assigned to operate in the west and were tasked with hitting P49 and the enemy ammo dump if possible. We upped 18 pilots in 5 JU88s and 13 bf109-G2s with 2 of the 109s providing close escort to the JU88s and 9 preceding them and clearing the way to P49. The other 2 .. Pyroman and I head due north to scout out enemy positions. Pyroman scouted P49 and I scouted A45.

I spotted 12 incoming dots head toward P34 and warned the LuftJagerKorps and reported their positions until they got to P34 area and then engaged. They turned out to be Hurricanes IICs which suprised me. But the only affect of my engaging them was getting myself shot down because I got frustrated after several passes and TnB with a plane .. allowing a ton of Huricanes to get on my tail and nail me.

Meanwhile the JU88s and their protecting fighters avoid contact to the east and struck toward P49. One JU88 messed up his orders and actually struck out west instead of east from A1 .. so he circled around to the west of the Hurricanes and then struck NE and hit P49.

We lost one of the 5 JU88s to a disco but the other 4 struck home and we believe we levelled P49. Still have eggs left on 3 planes and all the eggs on the fourth we sent the fighters back to A2 to try to pick off reported B26s there while the JU88s turned east and headed toward the RAF ammo facility.

The fighters returned to A2 and reported shooting down several B26s. The JU88s got to the RAF ammo facility and dropped the rest of their eggs on target and head south to A7. Dizy was lost to high alt AA fire at the ammo factory. The surviving 3 JU88s and 2 escorts headed for home. We believed we did moderate damage to the ammo factory.

A couple Hurricanes and Typhoons showed up and chased us all the way to A7. Our escorts TyrNM and OZK turned back even though they only had 1/8th of a tank of fuel and engaged trying to stall them. OZK died and TyrNM had to bail. Then Nucks in a JU88 turned back to stall them by sacrificing himself. This gave APDrone and KiDFury enough time to get away and land at A7. They touched down just as Nightmares fighters arrived on scene and chased off the Hurricanes by A7.

Here are the overall stats for Nightmares VMF-101 (recorded scores before frame and then compared to scores after frame to get these stats):

That was short and sweet? ;)

Well here is my AAR in pictures.

I have to say this was the most fun I have had in a TOD.  After engaging enemy fighters over the French coast and as a squad we shot down several we headed back to base. That is when a large formation of buffs were spotted. Nifty said we could engage so I headed right in. Only problem I had was trying to decide which one. ;)

I passed up a smoker and told swagger to go for him. This is the first one I bagged.

The I broke left and came around for seconds. ;)

I was really hungry so I went back for thirds.

Here is a close up.

This one ought to be a probable because he was not seen going down, but with out his verticle stab I am not sure how he could have made it much longer.

After that I was out of cannon and went for a 4th Ju88, but he was not so easy with just .303's. I hammerd him twice, but finally lost a wing. Thankfully it was over my own base! My chute opened and I landed on the taxi way. I walked to the runway.

Having said all that I see the logs only give me one kill. :( Oh well, such is life. I will brag with my pictures.

MAG-33
Typhoons out of A40.

 Operation Balls up

Where to start, blimey......we launched 3 flights of Typhoons from A40, Ripsnort leading the 2nd, Swoop leading 1st and 3rd being made up of stragglers who cant take off without a drama.  2nd was to dump ord and act as CAP, however 1st flight was delayed by 1min in mission planner, 2nd flight launched 1st and CO of 1st flight figured he was CO of 2nd flight.  Ahem.  Soooo, some tiffs (me) dumped ord when they shouldnt have.  However, some of the 1st flight (who we're the 2nd flight) kept ord and so did the 3rd flight (on 1st flight in planner) who we sposed to dump and grab.    Anyone else confused yet?.....cos I've gone crosseyed.

As the 2nd flight to launch (the 1st flight) was behind and above the 2nd flight (1st one to roll) we lost sight of them.  Now thanks to blurry maps and Ripsnort getting a bit old these days, location of.....the other flight was given as 7,11........which was over my left shoulder.     um.....?   We finally established it was 8,10 really but we'd completely lost sight of each other.  Electing to meet up at A20.

Big engagement over A20 - A19 area.  Several 109s engaged and shot down (exact figures comin.....), A20 bombed and we all RTBd to A40 to rearm.

We all formed up on the runway after rearm, Ripsnort then gave the countdown to roll.....hit enter one time too many and jumped outta his plane.   :-/

Off we go again to A20 with Vulcan keeping a high cap and observing the LW hit on P39 area.  A20 was hit hard again by 1000lbers, damage observed from a downed pilot was total.  We had con reports over A17 so we all converged there.  A large engagement followed with JU88s and 190s.  Several 190s claimed, some JU88s.  I saw some of ours chasing after JU88s, Vulcan definately claimed a few (again, exact figures comin).

RTBd again to A40, figured we had just enough time to re-arm and hit somewhere else.

However, out of 7 Tiffs that RTBd to re-arm:

1 (BlckMgk) had to leave due to real life.
1 (Swat) had taken aileron damage (and in a tiff thats serious) and elected not to re-engage.
1 (Me) Had his undercarriage shot out from under him on the runway by another tiff (Hamish) during a "technical malfunction".
1 (Hamish) did a "Ripsnort" while explaining and bailed 6k from the field, shortly after takeoff.
1 (Razor) augered while performing acrobatics to entertain a downed pilot (Sundog) stood in A20s tower.

Then a further incident then followed.  While walking back to the tower, Hamish struck up a conversation with Swat, who decided to take off and run a fly by over Hamish......the radio conversation went thusly:

Swoop:  Swat, you straff him and it's a courtmartial ya know....
Swoop:  then again......he just shot me down
Swoop:  Ok, it's a Silver Star, not a courtmartial.
Various:  lol.
Swoop:  Swat, I wasnt serious, cease fire.
Swat:     MWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAAA
Swoop:  I dont believe you swat.
Swoop:  you total smeg head
Swoop:  In fact, I'll go as far as saying:  Goit.
Swat:     Um, sorry.
Hamish:  Why am I in the tower?  :-/
Swoop:  Hamish, next time ya wanna test guns on the runway.....
Swoop:  ----->  *points at swat*

Vulcan was last seen orbiting A14 issuing challenges over ch1 to the LW with cries of "190 pilots are big tampons".  Apparently he forgets MAG-33 is flying em tomorrow......

Never had so much fun in my life.  I swear someone switched the oxygen for laughing gas.

LJK AAR:

We ran into just about every single Hurricane IIc ever made at 27K N of A1.

From the data I've seen, it seems that the 190A5 should greatly outperform the Hurricane at that altitude, but they flew circles around us as if they were on the deck, and shot all but two of us down.  I saw the fastest immelman I've ever seen from any plane, at any alt, and he did it while he was at 27K.

While the rest of us went to squeak and suck our thumbs, Taggart and Geeesy accounted for 4 or 5 aircraft destroyed over the course of the next hour before they were shot down and captured.  Geeesy likes english cigarettes.
