Day of Defeat 2.0
« on: February 08, 2002, 08:03:33 AM »
It's an Half-life WW2 modification, version 1.3 was good, but mostly a CS (counter-strike) without recoil and alot of running shooting stuff, version 2.0 just got out, great recoil effects, 4 new weapons (30 cal Browning MG, MG34, Mg42 and M1 Garand) and lots of other new things too. It's allways been team based but now it is more then ever, now you won't surive without your team, laying down cover fire with an MG42 down a street is FUN!

Alot better then CS (and any other 3D based game) in almost every aspect, and it is without doubt the most team based one, for those who haven't tried it, and have Half-life, try it :)

Well there maybe somethine more fun, thats getting up there as a sniper and raising hell behind the mortar! :)

highly recomend this one my self if you dont mind playing a game with "1998" gaming technoligy.

"I Mind" I guess, cuz Medal of Honor is just 1998'ing me to frustration. Same thing.

No blood, dated graphics, yet gameplay/design of the year all for notta.

Does DOD 2.0 deliver?

Creamo, you talking about MOH:AA? Check any of the mod sites for it. There's tons of mods out already, including blood packs, hit effects, etc. I use a combo blood mod and SPR-style hit-puff mod that seems to do well.

Man, if you think MOH:AA is cheesy graphics, I dunno what's gonna make you happy :) I find it stunning on max details.

Downloaded DoD last night - gonna give it a whirl this weekend.

Dude, if you think MOH has dated graphics, I'm guessing you haven't accessed all the setup options.  If you have a reasonably powerful system, it is one of the best looking games I've ever seen... nearly as good as RTCW (it's the same engine after all), and with a game that doesn't suck to boot.

Make sure you go into the 'Advanced' setup options and turn up the detail levels.  Play that, and then play DoD, and you will see how huge a difference there is in the graphical quality.

As for blood, I didn't notice the lack of it because the animations when hit and killed were some of the best around.  If you really want blood, there are a number of different 'blood mods' you can download.  Just go to a site like http://www.alliedassault.com and you will find lots of stuff.

DoD is a completely different experience.  It had decent graphics, but it is more about good multiplayer gameplay than about flashy graphics.

Well, the old version of DoD was much better than MoH on multiplier, so I assume 2.0 is the toejam.
Gonna try to download it, if I can find a server thats not full.

Medal of honor is another mod of quake 3, nothing new there. (like 20 other main stream games)

Wait till doom III is out, that game looks so friggin good.

The engine in  DIII renders light on every pixel of the screen and not a set area of shading. There is nothing in the gaming world that can touch that.

find some screen shots if you want to drool.

D0D is a great game, but i dont have this rig so i can play a game that runs great on my old POS k6-500 box.

I still may check it out because even in the beta 1.0 version it was a good time.

Have they added the flame thrower yet?

I don't think they have any plans to add typical deathmatch weapons, such as bazookas and flamethrowers, that remove the focus of the game from close quarters infantry combat.

It's too bad that your machine is too good for you to have fun.

Odd, last i checked the flame thrower was listed on there "weapons" section.  Its been a long time since i looked though.

When did i say i couldnt have fun because my system was to good? runs wolfenstein great, and max payne also should mention great frames in ghost recon, which are all a great time. should also mention empire earth which is buy far the great RTS game ever made.

Like i said i'll check it out, i like what im hereing. i'll sacrifice some eye candy for a good time, i mean i do play Aces high.

Medal Of Honor sucks bad IMO, you take alot of hits and can run around shooting like crazy without penalty, quake qith WW2 lookng weapons.

DoD 2.0 is GREAT, it's got a few bugs but they aren't too bad, will be fixed soon I hope. If you want a 3D Action Multiplayer game DoD 2.0 is the way to go, WAY better then 1.3.

Like I said before, Machine Guns have just been added, nothing as fun as to move up 2 Mg42's in a nest and cover the beach.

Creamo, defiantly think you should download DoD 2.0, if you have Half-life that is.

Well, maybe the most "team based one" for the Quake/HL/Doom crowd.

But none of them (or their mods) hold  a candle to the Redstorm stuff.  Rogue Spear: Urban Operations with the NATO 3 mod & some 3rd party maps can't be beat if you're looking for something more than twitchy, run & gun, spray & pray type gameplay.  Ghost Recon is just as good (if not better) in a slightly larger setting.

Both yes and no Doberman, DoD has gotten away from much of the run spray and pray thing, it's alot of teamplay now, more then I ever had in Rogue Spear (RS RULE but it is getting old). First game I've ever laid down cover fire for a bunch of advancing infantray, first time I've ASKED for cover and actually got it from a couple of MG, first time I've seen people throw in a bunch of grenades in a house while 2 people with SMG's cover him.
Really sweet game now.

Ghost Recon great game too, AI still very stupid (not as stupid as in RS) but multiplayer code sucks bad, feels as if it is programmed in Qbasic.

Yeah I agree with Wilbus. I was a huge Urban Ops fan, but DoD 2.0 is the best multi-player infantry shooter I've seen.
