You're joking.

Right?

OTOH, what would the wingloading on that P-47 be?

Dude, I was shocked when i landed and rolled past him on the runway. He says he landed her missing both wing tips.

Was flying in Typhoons with one missing wingtip without any problem. Easy to land too... It just required all the way trim to one side and up. So I bet one should not have that much problem flying Jug missing them both, granted he's very careful.

not so OK, in A8, at least, latteral stability sucks all day long, you have to be compensating with rudders all the time because the plane tends to roll to all sides!.

Yep...
With A8 you don't aim to the rw but on to the field... IMO it's easier than land without only one wingtip missing

I made it home in a -51D that had lost both wings like that.  But, I've also found out that you can't do it if only one wing has been sawed off.

Thanks for posting that, Silo!  I actually flew that bird all the way from A14 back to A13.  The ailerons are on the outer wing, so there was NO roll control except via rudder.  With the torque the jug has up front, it really wasn't that easy when low and slow on the landing.. every change in power required tended to roll the ship one way or the other.  Anyway, it was fun.  I'm glad to see it memorialized, even if it's not that big of a deal.   Certainly my k/d record isn't worth remembering.... in fact, I'd appreciate it if y'all would forget it! =)
Salute to all!

The B17 has beautiful perfomance w/o both wingtips.  Just fly the rudders all the way
