Attachments sooooo big
« on: February 23, 2002, 08:24:59 AM »
Taking a snapshot in AH the file is HUGE!!!  So ya really cannot do anything with it.  I tried cropping but unless I want a 1 X 1 inch file it is a no go.

There was a posting not long ago about a program that can reduce the bit size of a AH snapshot but did not change the file that much.

I seen a snapshot in another thread the was very nice, but only 38K byte size.

Thanks!!

Hi Swager,
There are loads of programs out there which do conversions, The main AH screenshot is so large because it's a Bitmap, Using a program to change it to a Jpeg makes a huge difference.

This image was nearly 5 meg it's now 39kb

I used irfanview, It's free, get it here http://stud1.tuwien.ac.at/~e9227474/

It plays avi, wavs, mp3's does batch conversions of complete folders, It's not the best quality out there but good enough for most uses.

You really don't need any extra programs....

The AH screenshot format is a BMP; which is "big" (file size) format.

However, if you open it up in good old MS paint, you can save it as a jpeg (choose "save as", then jpeg) and the file size will be considerably reduced.

Paint will also resize the image, if it's needed, to bring it in line with size limitations.

So, to recap - additional programs are nice for re touching or editing images - but if you just want to post here, a standard windows installation is enough.

You sure Seeker?

At least on my system MS paint will open "Jpg" files but I can't save them as anything other than "bmp" files. Am I missing a setting here?
