AAR - TOD Frame #2
 
Nightmares fielded 18 F4u-1D's, upping from CV41 and proceeding North as an advance fighter sweep of the Mongrels'  main strike force of Hellcats, targeting Port 28.  Nightmares entered the target area at 25k, making contact with approximately 5 Niki's, which were shot down with no losses.
 
At that point, the Mongrel strike force was called in, while the Nightmares swept the Port, expending remaining rockets and destroying many ground targets and gun emplacements, losing 5 planes to heavy ground fire.  Then, the remaining 13 Nightmares established a protective CAP West of the Port, while the main strike force of Hellcats completely pummelled Port 28 into the ground.
 
The Nightmares followed the Mongrels out of the target area, providing high rear cover.  On the RTB, one plane had to ditch due to an oil leak from ground fire, and six other Nightmares suddenly froze and were disconnected.  The remaining six Nightmares recovered at CV41, landing successfully.
 
Four re-up'd for a CAP of CV41, three of those eventually disconnecting as well, and the final plane put a nice dent in the conning tower trying to stick his second landing .  Very fun night folks, thanks to all attending, and WTG Mongrels on an excellent Port attack!

Flew an F6F with MAG33. Took off twice, did my mission and by God I landed back down on that deck twice. I'm still walking on air.

 That's my AAR. It's short but sweet. I'm just damn happy not to have gotten shot down this time or even worse augered (As I usually do) on approach

MAG-33 AAR
We launched approximately 6 TBM's and 10 F6F's from CV41 to hunt the TF north of our CV. The TF was located by our scouts and vectored the TBM's onto the target. One TBM was lost to AA fire from the TF and Jimbear managed to sink one ship, I believe it was an escort destroyer. Upon RTB (return to boat -) many of our F6F drivers managed a perfect three point landing with the main gear and the nose of the plane . We lost 3 or 4 to this new landing technique, which looked good, but critically hampered the re-use of the plane. Ripsnorts aircraft, a TBM, suffered a landing gear failure and bellied onto the CV. Some believe this was intentional due to pending recreational activities. That will probably be one of those great mysteries of the ToD.

We rolled a second time, however, we were unable to locate the TF this time within the alotted time. We did see alot of water, though. Lots and lots of water. Vulcan swears he heard singing sirens, but we think his turret was sucking in exhaust fumes. Where are those PBY's when you need them? All TBM's and scout/escorts RTB'd just in time, but we lost one when  he trapped the first wire and a gust of wind blew him off the back of the boat. During the event, we also lost two aircraft due to mechanical failure.

Launched a heavy P-47D 25 with 2x1000 and 1x500 and headed NW from A4. After reaching approximately 10k we started seeing some specks to the North of our position. There were only 7 of us since one guy had some mechanical difficulties and could not get rolling. I don't know where our fighter cover was but that is not the point. We all dumped ordinance and ran like hell once we saw not just the first 6 Ki-61's above us about 15k but what appeared to be 25 Ki-61's up there above us.

We lost two guys on the way out since they got jumped by 6 Ki-61's and had to fight instead of running. I had at least 1 trailer on me as I headed southeast to the base and I don't know how that plane stuck with me in my speed dive. I pulled out south of the base at A4 and headed west to get some altitude and separation. When I turned north I saw a Ki-61 alone turning lazy circles trying to get up to 12k with me. I turned in on him and popped a few rounds as I ran to help my squadron mates who were engaged and screaming for help. As I went in to help we lost one more member to a collision with an enemy plane. That brough the number down to 4 on roughly 10-15 enemy fighters. I rolled in on a pair of Japanese fighters as they were chasing my two squadron mates and let loose some rounds when I was inside of 600 yards (I know long shot odds but they broke anyway.). We turned and the next thing I saw were tracers from 3 different directions zip by my Jug. Then I lost my right wing tip and had to crash in the narrow straight north of A4. Right about then the remaining members of my squadron all called out in the universal pilot code for something going wrong...."Aww S#$%!".

I got picked up by the PT boats in the area of the base and we are waiting on two others who were spotted and have been picked up. That makes a recovery of 6 of 7 pilots since one guy was reported to have crashed into the side of a mountain.

56th FG launched 8 P-47D-25 with 75% fuel, center drop tank, and 2x1000lb bombs from A4.  We climbed out to the NE.  LJK and 56th FG were both heavy jugs tasked with hitting A1.  We flew separate course to enhance our chances of getting through and luckily we avoided enemy to the target area.  At A1, we destroyed all 5 aircraft hangars, all anti-aircraft guns, and at least one fuel tank with no losses.

On the way back, we encountered several Ki-61s at low altitude up from A3 heading south.  We attacked and destroyed at least 5 of them.  Continuing on to A4, we found that the enemy had dispersed or was destroyed.  We refueled, and a few of our aircraft (including my own) were unable to continue--one due to damage and two due to real life.  Nomde took over the squad, now joined by two 13TAS P-38s.  They swept A3 and continued to A1, strafing down the remainder of ground targets flattening A1.

Well, I feel at least partially avenged then.

Well, Kratzer, on the way back as Sancho says, we found the Ki-61s low and scattered, and ripe for mauling; they must have been pretty surprised to see us.  Meanwhile, what was left of the 13TAS was apparently chewing them up over A4.

Mongrels launched 14 heavy Hellcats from CV 41 with 2-1000 lb bomb, rockets and 100% fuel. Ghosth was flight lead and took us north. One fighter had a rudder malfunction but was able to hold it up and continue to target. We were escorted by the Nightmares to port 28. We spotted some dots that shadowed us for part of our flight then turned east away from the target while the Nightmares cleared the target area. Once we were given the all clear we dropped on the port, which had already taken some damage. Ack was light and we lost one fighter that took a direct hit and was seen striking the water just off shore. No chute was visible.  The port was completely destroyed and covered in smoke with in 3 minutes. Reports of another fighter lost, but this is unconfirmed. Ghosth gave the order to exit the area incase the enemy was bringing in fighters.

Good time had by all.

On the way home to CV 41 at least 5 Mongrels experienced a lock up and had to reboot.

Landed with 15 mins left..


only ever saw 2 F4's the WHOLE EVENT

I took off...flew about 5 minutes....got jumped by about 500 Ki61s...and died. It was fun.

I think we would've been much better off had the 56th ditched ordinance and assisted in fighting the Ki61s - with another 8 aircraft that fight would've been a completely different story, we could've held them and probably destroyed a good number of them, and the arrival of the 13th would've just sealed their fate.  After that we could've all landed, rearmed, and run the attack sortie unopposed.  Probably would've been a better use for us than just dragging the bad guys down onto the deck and being overwhelmed, though I am glad that resulted in you and the 13th being able to hit them from an advantage. Anyhoo...

to Kratzer and the LuftjagerKorps for letting me fly with them. I had a blast, even thought I was the first guy to buy the farm in the whole show. I think there were still people taking off and I was already seaweed. Was the most fun I've had this side of a scenario. Thanks again
