Extremely weird BBS/Hardware problem
« on: March 09, 2002, 01:02:13 PM »
My computer is very, very stable.
It almost NEVER crashed unless I do something stupid.
It can be turned on for days, constantly playing games and going on standby mode, and there is never a problem.

Until now.

EVERYTIME i click the post made by straffo named "Cougar :)" on this very same 'Hardware and Software' BBS..

>>>MY COMPUTER RESTARTS FOR NO APPARENT REASON!!!<<<

It doesnt shut down and restarts with Windows. It TURNS OFF, as if I unplugged the cabled or pressed the restart button on the case.
I have already reproduced this error about 7 times, and it will always happen, only when I click that thread. It wont happen when playing games or running SETI or ANY other CPU intensive program like Prime. I can even rip DVDs and burn CDs. Nothing can make my computer crash, except its achilles heel, that post made by Straffo.

This is NOT a joke though it may be funny, and in all my years of computer use and troubleshooting, ive never seen something so bizarre.

I will post this thread now and go click the 'Cougar :)' link one last time.

Try clearing web cache, you may have something corrupted there.

Windows XP here.
I really wish to find whats causing the problem so that I can reproduce it on threads I dislike.

I will rule the BBS.

That's not it, my custom autoexec.bat deletes and rebuilds Windoze temp, temporary internet, and history folders during every boot.

control panel - Internet Tools - delete cookies, delete files (offline & on), clear History, then, delete everything in windows temp, rinse and repeat.  If that doesn't work, drink a six-pack and call me in the morning.  (It's worth a try)
