Refresh rate problem?
« on: March 16, 2002, 11:20:48 AM »
I've noticed that Aces High has a slight screen trembling (is this what folks call flicker?).  I suspect the screen refresh rate in Aces High because I can duplicate the problem in desktop by switching from 60 Hz to 75 Hz.  Is there any way to check or change the refresh rate in AH? (It's not an option in the video setup).  Could it be a monitor problem - it's a brand new Samsung with latest XP approved driver?  It's supposed to be capable of 75 Hz.

Another problem I'm experiencing is that I can't select field views from the clipboard - only 'normal world' shows up.  Could this be related?  I used to have a problem with corrupted colors after Alt-tabbing to desktop, but checking 'disable palettized textures' in video setup solved that one.

Running XP and GeForce2 MX with latest XP drive (23.12) - I'd rather not go to earlier drivers if possible.

Your monitor likely has a display function, mine has Viewmeter which shows it refresh rate completely separate from the PC.  CHeck its actual controls (on the monitor)
Also in Video setrup in AH you can set it to max frames per sec.  I have mine set to max at 60.
Tho i do not see the flickering you mention.

There are no field views now i am guessing in the maps list as I don't have any listed either.

I run XP pro with a GF2 MX and use the 27.10 drivers, though I've never had a video card or driver related problem in AH (been around on and off for 2yrs)

The max frame rate setting in AH (45 or 60 or unlimited) doesn't actually change anything related to the refresh rate of your monitor (it just limits how many extra frames AH tries to render).

When you play a game in full screen mode that has different resolution from your normal Windows screen, the montior switches to that mode.  Often you haven't used that other mode for Windows and so you haven't set the refresh rate for that mode.  Set your desktop temporarily for that mode and then use Settings, Control Panel, Display, Settings, Advanced, Adapter, and then select the refresh rate you want in the box at the bottom.  Then, when AH uses that resolution it will also use that refresh rate.

(These instructions are for Win98 but the idea is the same.)

Win2k and XP users need to run a program downloadable here that will let you choose a refresh rate you wish. Usually the best way is to set all frequencies to 85hz, 32bpp, reboot and flickering will be gone.

It's a bug in nvidia drivers.
