Much fun in the CT last night
« on: March 23, 2002, 09:20:08 AM »
The squad I'm in, The Flying Mongrels did a JU88 mission last night to an UK airfield.

It was the most fun I had in the CT so far!!

I watch a group of Spitfire Is along with a Hurri I take off as a group from an RAF airfield and it was sweet to watch!  I think there was 7 all totaled.  I even took a film of it!

Earlier, in a Hurri I, I had a low level dogfight with some Me110s over the channel.  Very nice!!

Great setup and well done for those involved!

This should be a permanent arena!!  :)

Rock:  Ya see that Ensign, lighting the cigarette?
Powell: Yes Rock.
Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.

Plane set makes for great fun.  Can't run and the guns or lack thereof result in long fights.

Swagger,

It was definitely a good time.  I prefer arenas where historicaly adversarial aircraft are pitted against each other.  However, during that large JU88 raid my temporary (and cheap) joystick broke on me and I'm grounded again for a while.  :-(

One day, ONE DAY...we'll be doing early SW Pacific with F4Fs and P40 diving at Betties.  :-)

LOL, and that lone Hurricane amid the cloud of Spits was...me.  I had to go put my son to bed, and when I got back, the rest of the Buccs had changed planes.  I didn't know, so I merrily launched to catch up.  I made good bait for the rest of my squad :). , felllow Buccaneers.  What a blast!

Rolling missions are the best in the CT, I made a mission with Hurri I and Spit I with about 8 in each plane and we went and flew over a furball. It was pretty darn cool to hear all the help going on over AHV (almost made it sound real) Alot of us made it home and landed... We did it twice but the second time I got a disco :\ but any of you MA potatos ;) reading this CT is almost BETTER then the MA and I suggest you give it a try some time.

Peace

Should keep the BoB setup up for atleast two weeks. So much fun!

Got to agree with everything above, This one is great. Were early guns really that bad? I chased a JU88 across the channel yesterday in a spit and made repeated passes, lighting him up every time. Took about 5 attempts before he finally bailed and even then I did not see anything fall off. The limited damage effect and the overall slower pace of the planes makes for some epic fights.

Keep it up guys.

Agreed.  Everything works with this setup.

The fighters are about evenly matched in performance.

The Ju88s, although probably a bit uber, attract the buffdweebs with their survivability.

We all learn to fly better, because the wuss armament makes us fly closer to our targets.

I see no down side - looked like everyone was having an absolutely wonderful time (except for you, Karnak!).  I'd love to keep this one around for awhile.

Yep, this is a winner.  Two weeks would be great.

Then get us an f4f, p40, kate and lets go to the PACIFIC!

great set up fantastic matchups.Id agree to extending the time its on.

now the bad news.........

If i hear one more claim that the ju88 is UBER im gonna start swinging punches!

Ive flown the Ju88 (99.9% :)) exclusively in MA as i fly LW only and have had my bellybutton handed to me on a platter constantly for MONTHS.Now finally i face fighter with the guns it REALLY faced in 1940 and i hear constant complaints.Even some old names were claiming they were impossible to shoot down.

Infuriated i changed to allies for ONE flight in a spitfire to prove this was total BS.

my tally?

1x me110 destroyed. took its tail clean off.
1x Ju88 destroyed. totally exploded after 4 or 5 passes. smoked both engines ,holed fuel tanks etc etc and I even had to contend with an me110 escort so i couldnt maintain a steady pendulum attack.
1x me110 damaged and chased away.(ju88 escort)

remaining rounds? @130 in EACH set of guns totalling around @250-270 rds

Thats 1 sortie, first try.

Why was i able to do it? BECAUSE i didnt just sit at 6oc firing like an idiot whos used to simple spit cannon kills.

from 4'oc- 8'oc from the rear and -60 degrees below or +70 degrees above the 6oc position guess what? the guns cant hit you.
sure i took a few pings after sweeping attacks and dives and climbs but it was a thousand times easier to shoot down than any b17 or lancaster has been for me as LW in every other CT setup.finally we (ju88s) have a chance to survive an attack (as long as the fools attack our rear) and the allies whine like girls, even quit out in a huff like children.

please stop the whining. This is not helping the CT. I was in a fantastic mood after days of enjoyable missions with allied pilots who rather than squeaked. The atmosphere was immediately ruined for me by this crap.

harsh ? maybe but i pay to fly there too and i dont appreciate my fun being ruined.

Ive made up my mind about the 303's and there is nothing wrong with them.

Bad workmen blame their tools.

sorry for saying this here but it needs to be said.

Hey Hazed who's whining? Just saying it like I saw it. I was not questioning the  strength of the 88 or the weakness of the 303's. just commenting on the difference compared to what I'm used to. I've flown  enough 202's to know what it's like to be down on firepower in comparision with other planes. I had the most fun I've had for a while last night, (Splitting my time between Allies & Axis). Loosen the leather jockstrap a bit and take a deep breath. ;)
