Yeah, I suppose we do.  You can still buy sodas there though.

I hadn't heard anything about this.

This is ironic. Just an hour or so ago, I was talking to my wife about Soda prices. We moved to Maryland last summer, and noticed that sodas, when on sale, are a dollar more per 12 pack. Guess that tax will take care of that. It's OK by me.

who cares though? soccer moms who buy gallons of the toejam for their little horde of rolly polly suburban sugar junkies?

this isn't the 50's anymore -  a lot of people realize you can't drink gallons and gallons of highly caffeinated sludge without getting fat, uncomfortable and moody. if your intake is moderate a tax won't even budge you.

Irony mrfish, is that people didn't drink gallons of the stuff in 50's... we seem to get stupider all the time, even as we get smarter.

sigh...yeah, i know that ispar - the reference was to the naivete of the period not actual consumption. i forget to get out my cola intake census before posting to you nit-pickers.

the idea is that we ought to know better than to suck down tons of sludge in this day and age even if people from preceeding eras didn't - i was hoping a short phrase might avoid the inevitable aces high essay but i guess not.  complete list of resources is available if you need it.

i remember my mother saying what a treat it was to get a coke in the 60's. that mentality lead people of her generation to constantly down the stuff throught the seventies and eighties as it got cheaper.

my generation has had the garbage in front of them and on every billboard for years.

You can buy beer and wine at many grocery stores in Texas, not "hard liquor" though.
Here we put salt on Margaritas, not sidewalks.
