WWII biwing aircraft

Why not add a biwinger like Sopwith camel (used in early ww2 as well as ww1) you could make it really manuveralbe but a little weak like the zero, i don't think it would be at too much of a disadvatage and would probobly be good for turn fights.

Just a sec.......still giggling here.............:) :)

A Sopwith Camel has about as much business in the game as a F-105 or a Mig-19.  Not to be too harsh, but let's get real.

You up in a rickety Camel (for what, I have NO idea) and any plane, even a C47, will outrun you, hands down.  Your guns (what were they, 30 cal at best?) are just gonna tickle nearly any plane in the game, except, of course, a C47.  So, you will only be able to out gun a Goon.  
Wouldn't even be interesting IMO......
I think I know what you were thinking, the novelty of a WW1 aircraft mixing it up with WW2 ones, but it would not even be meat on the table...more like crumbs on the floor.

Now I will return to my laughing fit........:p :D :D

Well not just sopwith, There are a few other planes, just thought it would be cool to have a biwing plane in ah, I was thinking more of having a "biwing only" room... or kinda strech the planes manuveriblity and guns a lil :)  .... But I'd like to see a sopwith VS ME262 :D

Having one of the fabric-coved biplanes would be very nice.  I need practice with high-closure gunnery.  :D

In the world of fighters he who has the most energy controls the fight.  The take off speed of many of the fighters currently modeled is higher than the dive speed of a camel.   If HT modeled  turbulence a B17 flying too close would flip you into a potentially unrecoverable spin.

Putting biplanes in would be like running the Final Countdown scenario; 2v2, I get F14As with white birds on the rails, you get a pair of A6Ms.  Let's party.

Yes, it could be fun, but it would take as long for the seven HTC people to spin up a Newport as a F4F.  Why bother with an aircraft that'll never get used, even in scenarios?

Puck,

You are greatly exagerating the performance difference between early WWII bi-planes and early WWII monoplanes.

The Gladiator had a top speed of 265mph.  The Hurricane had a top speed of 314mph.

Yes, that is significantly faster.  No, that will not cause a Galdiator to spin out of control.

FWIW, only the Me262 and Ar234 have a take off speed higher than a Camel's top level speed of 116mph, let alone its dive speed.  It should be noted that the Camel is a WWI fighter, not an early WWII bi-plane fighter.

Gladiator would make a good biplane,

Top speed: about 265 mph like karnak said
Armament: (first versions) 4x 7.7mms
Type: Carrier based

And as for the speed, speed is not allways an advatage, in the 262 you can overshoot your target easily and can't turn as sharp.
I've shot down 4-5 people in the il-2 and its speed/ aramemnt are about the same (a lil better armament).
But I think overall the Gladiator would make a good addition (and there arent many carrier based fighters).

Gladiator and some russian biplane would be good addition to AH at low alt it could out turn spitfire , hurricane and all other planes very easily :p

one advantage that fabric had over wood/metal was that bullets passed straight through it, thats why none of the swordfish(can we have one?:)) were shot down by the bismark(sp?)

Id fly the gloster gladiator, fairley swordfish,avia B534(1941-42),fiat Cr31 fiat CR 42(1940),Heinkel He49 and He52(1942),Henschel Hs123A(1942-43),Henshel Hs 126B(1945!!!),Letov S 328(1944!)

all are biplanes and those dates are OPERATIONAL dates.

They were flown and used in WW2 more than you might imagine.

ID absolutely love to see one of these aircraft in AH for the novelty and fun of flying such an outclassed machine.Ive flown ju88s in AH and it really is not a competative aircraft.But you can sneak in or use protection of fighter cover to give them a role still.

The airrcraft id really like to see is the Henschel Hs123A:

Type dive bomber/close support aircraft
Power plant 880HP BMW 132Dc
Performance: max speed 211mph at 3,935ft,ceiling 29,530ft
Armament:two fixed firing 7.92mm MG17 plus 992lb of bombs

im pretty sure there were adaptions to this model but i cant be sure.wasnt these fitted with cannons for anti tank sorties?
may not be the right one but id love to see it anyhow :)


eddeik you are a cruel man to rip into this guy for asking for aircraft he likes.we have spit I's,Hurricane I's and 202s so why not a few others that are even worse but are still real planes used in combat? ive seen people asking for a godamn bearcat which didnt even fire a bullet at an enemy plane! that is more of an outlandish request if you ask me.

Only bi-plane worth of work to model it would be I-153 imho. Retractable landing gear, 444kmh (~275mph)@5600m, 2x12,7mm UBS mg and 2*20mm ShVAK cannon, 100kg bombs or 6xRS82 or -132 rockets.
Was in first-line service to summer '43 and ground attack role after that.
