I am new to the site, a buddy of mine is in a squad on this and told me to check it out.  I have a 56K connection and gutted out the download.  I went up in a P-38 and it was INCREDIBLE!  The EXTREME realism of a "simple" 45 degree turn, gives the accurate "compression" of the plane.  I have played this plane in other Sims and nothing comes close to that.  It may seem minor, but it is true how in other sims you have free reign of a plane.

This sim is incredible.  I have the European edition of MCFS and it is no longer a challenge or fun.  How many times doing the same missions, dogfights with the "highest enemy setting", etc.     It sucks after a while.   I am sincerely looking forward to this site and game.  :p

I am looking forward to any tips, help I may need.

Keep flying!

Jay

I've been doing Flight Simms for a couple of years... This flight model is definitely unique.  Take your 38 to 10K and put her in a dive 'til you can pull her out... Doesn't take long.  Trim is your friend :D

Is a great game with a steep learning curve... Do some time in the Training arena to help you get the feel for this game.  Damage is reduced in there and the ammo loads are increased.

See Yas Up!

Thanks guys!  I can't wait to get out of work and on the pc!  I'm going to be 29 in June and feel like a kid in a candy store!

Since you have CFS1, you might as well go score a copy of CFS2 (about $20 nowadays) and import those Euro planes into the CFS2 more-realistic flight model.  Makes for some good practice, particularly if you also import the 1% planes from http://www.avhistory.org.

And welcome to the addiction!  I just started a week ago and I'm already getting hooked!

Welcome, Masherbrum!

The beauty of AH is that you never know what the next enemy's "setting" is going to be.   ;)

As someone suggested, it might be useful to spend some time in the Training Arena with your buddy, or a trainer, to get used to the flight model, view system, and gunnery a bit before jumping into the Main Arena.

Also, spend some time reading this forum, and the Help files, before you go in the MA.  Most guys are happy to answer questions online, but "how do I shoot the guns?" is not always the best way to start.   :)

Cya up there.

I'll refrain from the "green syndrome" and jump into the MA, I realize that I have a slight disadvantage.

To be honest, I haven't been to the training arenas yet and I've been flying for a week and a half.  I prefer to go straight into combat and learn as I go along.  Of course, I'm also building a very large training manual that I keep in a 3-ring binder and I try to read a few pages each night whether I fly online or not.  Poking around here and at http://www.netaces.org has helped immensely.

I flew AW 1.5, AWII, AWIII, and AW Millenium Edition just before EA dropped it from their line-up. A lot of the concepts I learned there are transferrable to Aces High, but my biggest problem is just learning the key commands for the aircraft, radio, etc. and learning the flight model.

Since you're coming from CFS1, you probably have a pretty good idea of gunnery and ACM, but now you just gotta get in the stick time and learn the systems.  You also gotta get used to the idea that you're going to get spanked now and then by guys better than you.  Just keep flying!

whe nyou run out of free trial time for the MA,TA,CA AND CA come play in the hth for a while youll find the true meaning of dogfight and best of all its FREE. plus you can test how good planes are against other planes withing a few minutes instead of flying for 5 minutes in the MA just to see teh enemy for 3 seconds before either of you go down in flames. but in the hth arenas most people will give you help.

absolutely gofaster, I know I have some skills, but being new to this format, throw some of it out of the window!

I plan on subscribing, this may be my new hobby.  The people here so far are friendly (I completely understand that "up there" {eyes are looking upward} it is strictly business, someone is going home crying, and for me I will for a bit) and helpful, as I was perusing the other "newbie oriented" topics.

I can't wait!
