I know we ran a SNAPSHOOT with what we had.

CT is a good place for the Scenario group to TEST things like this for upcoming Scenarios also.

No word on a KATE ? ? ? ?

Lots of possibilities.

If you are talking about HISTORICAL Carrier ops after Midway there was not much CV vs CV action.

Leyte they used the IJN CV's as a decoy and the Marianis was a "Turkey SHOOT".

Personally I LIKE the older plane set - KATE and VAL and ZEKE vs F4F, SDB, TBM.

Your milage may vary.

The Battle of the Phillippine Sea in June 1944, pitted 9 Japanese carriers against 15 US carriers.  It was the largest carrier clash in history.

Considered a turkey shoot for US forces in real life, I'm not sure it would be as easy for USN pilots in a virtual AH contest.
Numerical superiority, experience, organization, tactics and battlefield intelligience all grossly favored the US in this battle.

If these factors were evened out it would be interesting to see what happens...

...not to mention having Carriers that can instantly arm and launch and infinite number of aircraft is quite the force multiplier.

That would be so much fun, and I have to admit, the early plane set would be just fine with me.  I really hope they go for it.

Did you guys see that poll?  No gracie to be seen.

I dont know what the prej against the kate is, it aint that bad...  It aint a rocket ship, but niether are any of its contemporaries.

What I think would be perfect, is realistic spawn limits.  if 40 (not sure what the real numbers of aircraft were) f4fs have taken off from a carrier, then you cant lift one, till one comes back, or dies....  I would like to see them gone from the spawn if they die till the carrier respawns.  That way death and the death of your opponent really feels like something important.  BUt of course this conversation has been done before, and we all know how much money people pay each month to fly whatever they like whenever they like......

The big problem with Japanese atack aircraft, other than the Grace, Is that have the following forward firing guns.

The Jill has no forward firing gun, non, zero, zip, nota...

The Juddy as two 7.7mm type 97mg's firing forward.

The Grace has two 20mm type 99 model 2 cannons firing
forward.

What do you plan on doing after you drop your bombs? Die,go home, or kill somthing?

Jill=die

Juddy=go home (might as well cant kill with those guns)

Grace=Kill somthing

All three have basicaly the same defensive package that the TBM has. 13mm up top, 7.7 in the ventral position(not all had a ventral gun).

Seriously why do we want to add a plane that is going to just sit in the hanger deck, if we get a jill, or a kate, the only people who are going to be happy about this are the US plane lovers who are looking forward to reliving the marians turkey shoot during some scenario that is going to play once a year. Their eys glaze over as they ponder the posabalities of diving into packs of heavely loaded and virtualy defensless Japanse strike aircraft. Why is it going to just sit in the hanger deck because anyone who wanted to optimise their fun is going to up a TBM instead,The Best Japanese strike plane is the Grace. We all live in the MA, or the CT that what we nead planes for not a once a year scenario.

I think this is becoming much less of a once a year thing though.  BOB is a real and fun rotation of the the CT.  The ju88 is nearly pointless in the MA but man is it a uber bomber in the CT.  The ki 67 is nothing to write home about in the MA, but it beats all in the pac set ups.  The nice thing about getting some of these ijn non uber planes in the game is using them correctly.  Even the Kate with its measely little forward gun is fun if you fly with a squad.  My purpose when flying these things is to attack a carrier or land base then get out. If you are trying to do anything else you are just asking for it.  20mm or not.
This is particularly true in the MA.  You dont hang with the doras, nikis, spits, and la7s if your flying a tbm.  Forward fifties or no.  Hell could be a 40mm cannon, and your still gonna die.

I think the problem is that within a few months, there will be no more uber aircraft to add (getting like hollywood in here spit 1, spit 2, spit 3, rocky 14, rocky 15...), you will just have to deal with getting all of these hangar queens that some of us love so much....

I agree with all this.  If life never goes beyond the MA, then it really doesn't make sense to have any new planes - they'll never be flown, because virtually all of the uber planes have already been implemented.  Fortunately, we have the CT, with the ability to structure an arena for the early war planes.

My point is becarefull what you ask for you may just get it.

Does this mean NO IJN pilot ever flew the Kate ?

Some people want the best planes that were dogfighters - others want planes for OTHER reasons.

Some may want JUST US planes - others JUST LW or JUST RAF . . .

Some may feel the same way about the next Varient of an LW plane or another - what a waste of time and resources  !

If HTC wants to spend time on a plane that might be used just several times a year so be it. If the next  batch  makes CT / Scenario pilots happy then lucky them this time.

No one NEW plane is going to make everyone happy.

If we were to receave Japanese planes as frequentaly as we receave US planes I would not be standing on my soap box yelling about what a poor choice a kate or a jill is imo ( not to mention a val), I would like to see a competive Japanese plane set like the competave German set we have or the competave British set we have, the idea of adding Japanese planes to fill out a once a year scenario is just insane. We are geting a great number of early war planes and I for one am very happy about that so please dont get me wrong here. What I am wondering is why we are not filling out the late war set first for Japan like all the rest of the countries ( Russia and Italy excluded of course). The val and the Kate are going to be unused 95% of the time a competave plane like a ki 102, or a Grace, or a Frances, or a ki 84 would go a long way toward adding aircraft that would get used a lot more often. I personaly love the Tony but i often wounder why it was added before the Ki 84, somone told me a CM sugested it....

With all do respect to the worthwile efforts the CM corp's do and all the fun they bring us I can not stand behind a deschion based on this alone, " We nead planes for a midway battle" HTC is going to bust their balls to make us planes we will hardely ever use?
