WB players trying AH
« on: May 06, 2002, 02:42:05 PM »
Please email me if you are going to give this a fair shake, and I will take a few hours to spend some 1 on 1 time with you.  ACM rules the day in AH just like it does in WB.  The big difference is timing.  Timing is everything, and the biggest hurdle you will have to overcome.  Where you could safely outmaneuver a plane you just spotted D5 on your 6 in WB, in AH you need to make the same move sooner.  Which leads to another hurdle, SA.  These 2 things are needed to be successful in air combat in any sim, period.  They are the first things to go when you switch sims.
You can not expect to be ruling the skies in 2 weeks.  This sim isn't new anymore and after 3 years we have some sticks.

The competition here is a melting pot of aces.  One reason I left WBs was the chance to dogfight some of the aces from the other sims, AW, FA, EAW, etc.  There are a lot of very good pilots here.  I would love to see some of you come give AH a whirl once educated.  :)  Anything I can do to help, please let me know.

Email me, I can give you a huge head start with just a few hours.

One thing I remember when I switch to Aces High was the range counter was done in a different way. I think not understanding the difference is where a lot of the claims of laser gunnery come from.

You should listen to Drex.  He is making you a very generous offer.
It would be a waste of time to try and teach this 'old dog' anything new, but you have a chance to learn from a 'Master of the Game'  ;)

If there is one thing I HAVE learned, is that the lag here IS quite alot different.

Just how different, I've yet to discover ;)

I'm being shredded when I break or barrel roll on a hard six bounce. Split-ess bounce commin in hot, go for the pullup to force the overshoot, and I'm hitting silk.

I ask whoever killed me whether they saw the break...trying to get a feel..not there yet.

I have a habit when seeing a high con, just to sit tight get fast, and wait for the bounce, then act accordingly. Sort of a 109F vs. Pony tactic, evade and act on what your givin.

Acting accordingly is hitting the chute  :D

D10-11 was a break point over there on a hard bounce. Or D1.0-1.1 here...

Broke early in a quick barrel roll, no dice, he chopped throttle, sat on my six...

Can we talk shredded ???

:)

That isn't the reason you are getting shredded.  My question to you is are you still realitively on the same flight path when you go into your roll, or are you breaking nose low first waiting until they commit to a shot with lead pursuit then rolling?

My guess is that you are missing their E state (judging closure takes some time in here).  The slower the closure the more angles you will need to create a miss and a reversal.(longer break turn then a longer roll).  The faster he is closing the less degree of break turn you will need before you roll(quicker roll and keeping him pretty much on your original flight path)

This can be overcome rather quickly. I know the perfect drill. :)

When is a good time for you to hook up with me?

the other thing that drex is missing out is his ability to accurately put 100% of your .50s on an insanely far away target at an impossible angle every single time without ever thinking twice about it.

I wish he could teach me how to do that.

Furious, you bet.

preon1,  I have one of the worst gunnery percentage in the game.  Usually around 5-8%, but hit percentage is a false indicator of gunnery (What?).  The small window that you have to put the bullets in the plane is where I have a high percentage. :)

Personally I don't seem to suffer from lag but I know there are players who have had bad connects. You might have missed what's been going on connection wise, basically Skuzzy who runs the ISP that HTC are hosted on is having new nice fat pipes run to his provider, he still hosts the CT andduelling arena's etc but as a temporary measure the MA is hosted by another company. Hopefully the MA will once again be hosted by Skuzzy very soon and we will all go back to the good connects we once had.

Revvin, and others,..I think there would still be a problem for many players in Europe right now, even if the MA was here.
There is a very serious routing problem in Europe right now.  I am pulling together all the information I can to try to determine where and why it is happening.
I do know that Telekom in Germany has a route problem with the 217.x.x.x Class A IP block, which is appearing in many player traces.  I do not know what the time frame for that to get fixed is, as it is certainly in thier hands.  All I can tell those players are; please let your local ISP know there is a problem.  I posted a trace that shows the exact problem.  Hopefully that will help them get the problem corrected.
HTC cannot fix this problem.  It is going to take both ends of the connection to get this one fixed.  I can send data from this side of the pond, while the guys overseas can send it from thier side.  This will give a complete picture to the ISP over there and that is where the repairs need to start.

What I am concerned about are local players, which suddenly seem to be effected.  It is almost virus like in the spreading of the problems.  It does not appear to be congestion related, but routing related.
And while I have seem my fair share of routing problems. I have never seen this many of them so close together.  Something else is going on and I am going to find out what it is.
