SOYO Dragon+ mb and XP ?
« on: May 22, 2002, 08:11:26 AM »
I am getting ready to buy a new box:

AMD XP2000 cpu
Soyo Dragon + mb
512 RAM
GF4 4600 128MB DDR
SEAGATE 40GB 7200IDE

Going with MS XP on recommendation of the shop.

My ? is,,, the Soyo has an onboard Sound Card--
Should I get a card or use the one on the MB?

Also I currently use a Saitek X36/CH pro peds usb rig.

I have read on the boards that the Saitek software will not work with XP,,,which controllers work well with XP?

Thanks in advance.

I have almost the exact setup you are looking at.  I use the onboard sound and have no problems at all.  It supposedly uses up a bunch of resources but I cant tell a difference.  I had to program my saitek inside the game, no biggie really, all works fine.  Setting up the MB can be a pain but once its up it is very nice, love the onboard LAN also.  Go for it, you wont regret it.

Milo
I just built a soyo dragon + 1800 xp and it worked fine.
The onboard sound was ok. But I understand that the cpu usage for such boards(except the nvdia ones) is quite high. So I ended up using a sb 5.1 board in the system I built.
I have my Saitek cyborg gold working in xp. I have ordered a cougar though.

Same setup here, but I went with the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz Soundcard,as some people have had issues with Creative soundcards with the newer via chipset motherboards.

I'm running a Saitek x45 with CH Pro USB pedals on XP Pro.

I'm not using the Saitek software at all, I use Hazard script and Daz drivers.

The only problem I have is my rudders don't hold calibration when I have to reboot, just recal and they work until the next reboot.  I've been told by CH support to install their new control center software and it will fix my rudder calibration problem.  I haven't found the time to try the Control software yet.

I have the Soyo Dragon and WinXP Pro and it works great. I use the onboard ethernet adapter and I started out with the onboard sound. No problems in Aces High, but I was having some sound issues in Grand Prx Legends, so I disabled the onboard sound and stuck in my SB Live. Had the same problems with the SB Live, until I updated the 4-in-1 Via drivers. So I reckon the onboard sound is perfectly fine.

I also use the Saitek X45 and CH Pro Pedals, using the Hazardscript and Daz drivers. No problems. But my Cougar is OTW shortly. :)
