Hellkitty drivers: Give me the run down
« on: May 22, 2002, 07:16:55 PM »
First tour, spent alot of time in Dora's, A-5's, 51's, Corsairs, La7's, one or two in a Niky and

...a couple in a Golly-gee Spit

Last night flew a few in a squeakkitty.

Whas the poop ???

Never flew one where I came from, they sucked ( for me )

But I'm seeing good acceleration, great turning ability, good six view...

Spend alot of time with the trim keys, more than most rides, fantastic elevator response.

With time, it seems like it would be one hell of a ride :)

What do I turn with, what do I not turn with.

What's the low down ??

Planning on dying in a few tonight.

Any very secret hellkitty secrets would be greatly appreciated.

Don't turn with a Spit V/I, Hurri, Zeke or C.202.  The rest are pretty much doable.  Learn to use your flaps and you'll see what I mean.

Also... the acceleration is good, but only if you are willing to sacrifice some alt.  Level acceleration is mediocre at best.  The real pain is that after a dive, speed drops over quite fast.

Well I'm coming from the school of Mathman when it comes to hellcat flying.  The biggest key to success with the hellcat is speed management.  At speeds around 250 the hellcat will out turn allmost everything in the arena (minus the real nimble aircraft, like the spit V, zeke, etc.)   I will turn fight a F4U every chance I get in the hellcat.  You can even best a spit IX in a scissors fight at least asuming the spit jockey really doesn't know his stuff (I've never really ran into a really good pilot flying a spit IX in this case so I dunno but I have had succes in scissors against the spit IX).  Keep speed up, use rudder input to help your roll rate, and remember if all else fails the hellcat is one tough bird. ;)

I suggest you check out mathman's page on the hellcat.........which I just realized I no longer have the URL too... lemme go find it hehe

ok found it :D

Would recommend you think of it as an e-fighter than can turn when you need it/want it rather than the other way round. You can then fly it as a more aggressive e-fighter than some of the other plane options on the list.

Wouldn't recommend taking it out with a turnfighter mentality - there are better options in the hangar to do that.

I fly the Hellcat everytime I log on to MA.  I use it mostly to kill GVs and the city when I take off from the CV.

I drop my bombs on target 9 out of 10 times using the Historical Hellcat gunsight I downloaded.  Wish it had more rockets though.

Not the best plane to dogfight tiny spits in but I have shot a few planes down in it.:D

where did you find the historical gunsight? It wasn't in the AH gunsight download area.

The hellcat will outturn and outaccelerate the Hog by quite a bit.  deja is correct.   The latter is so bad in boith planes tho that it's not a big deal.   If a Hog can get a situation where he can use his roll rate against you, you are dead.   Some people mistake this for "turn".

Hey Lev, maybe you should take up the Spit IX some and show 'em a little something.  :D

My most embarassing moment in AH?   Leviathn catching me flying a La-7!!!    (and then me promptly getting shot down by an Osti!)
