*sigh* CD-ROM Problem
« on: May 25, 2002, 01:40:30 PM »
Before I left home on Thursday, it was fine.

Now, I get home today, turn on PC... and the f'in CD-ROM drive door opens up- and stays open. I can close it, but it reads twice and then opens up again. I can put a CD in it and close it, but it reads it maybe 8 times, then opens back up again.

It's a CD-RW, and is set as master on the secondary IDE chain.

Got any ideas how I can get it back to staying closed?

Thanks.

I've already tried disconnecting power (both from PC, and the CD-RW), I tried disconnecting the audio cable that runs from the sound card to the CD-RW, no luck there. I even tried using the Windows eject (right clk CD-ROM in My computer)... nothing.

It's a Pacific Digital 16x10x40 CD-RW.

Thanks.

Try powering it up with the IDE cable disconnected.  That might tell you something.
