NATO accepts Russia as junior partner in alliance
« on: May 29, 2002, 12:28:13 AM »
........ and nobody even mentions it in the O-Club!

Times have changed.

IMO, this is a pretty major change in the world and one of the rare ones for the better.

I was looking forward to having someone point out how wrong I was and how it was all a clever ploy by the US oil companies that "own" Bush.

I was looking forward to having someone point out that it was all the Russians idea in the first place, that they had better weapons anyway and were doing it just to help NATO out. Besides, they have tanks designed by Kurt Tank and everyone else just piggybacked off of him.

I was looking forward to having someone tell me that it was very arrogant of the US to even to discuss allowing the Russians into NATO.

This just isn't the same old O-Club anymore.

Oh you mean this:  http://www.nato.int/docu/update/2002/0527/e0528a.htm

I think "partner" might be overstating it and the "junior" part might offend some.  :)

But I agree this is a good thing.  I really hope Russia can become a member of NATO some day.

kinda ironic, considering NATO was made to defend against Russia.

This means we can finally get rid of NATO?
