Flames Over Malta (Sunday TOD)
« on: June 13, 2002, 02:21:34 PM »
I'm hpaay to announce that it will be the next Sunday TOD:

Malta - a small island in the Med almost exactly between the coast of Italy and Tunis. The island was used by Britain as a naval base since the Napoleonic era. In 40’s Malta was a thorn in the Axis side with her ability to thrust at any link from Italy to Africa. In the summer of 1940, Italy missed its best chance to take Malta when the island defenses were inadequate. Regia Aeronautica was bombing the island from 11.06 but bombing alone would not defeat the Allies.

The Italians took interest in Malta in the 1940, when they realised that its strong tactical allied position standing in the way of their supply convoys heading to Lybia. They began a bombing campaign that did some damage to the port and RAF airfields. RAF couldn’t stand against them and the situation became critical when Regia Aeronautica were joined by elements of the Luftwaffe's Fleigerkorps X in January, 1941.

As the Battle of Britian ended and the German's focused on the blitz, the RAF managed to reinforce Malta with some badly needed fighters. From that time the strenth of the defending forces continued to grow every month. They recieved night fighter elements and effective anti-shipping Blenheim IVs. Every day was closer to the final victory.

The Axis raids in the first half of 1942 were increased when Malta had become a major thorn against resupplying Rommel in Libya. There were even invasion plans for taking Malta but they were not carried out. The fighting over Malta lasted for 4 years and 2 months. The final tally eventually came to 3,340 air raid alerts claiming over 2600 civilians and servicemen.

As always, MAG would prefer Allied but will fly anything.

However, in this case, we would REALLY prefer Allied.....cos I love seafires.  :D

« Reply #8 on: June 14, 2002, 10:38:00 AM »
All possible and immaginable planes are modelled in AH except the STUKA Ju-87

Why don't you implement the Ju-87 STUKA while instead the IL-2 STURMOVIK it is ?

Hey AH programmers i'm speacking with you ;)

I suppose it is because the only flyable plane in the AXIS planeset is the BF-110.

The BF-109E unlike the real one, is too unbalanced compared to the SPIT-I whose bad negative G performances are the only real differences with the BF-109E, while in the real, the BF-109E was faster, more powered, a faster diver, and a better climber than SPIT-I and last but not least it was heavily armed.

Those caracteristics i found in Warbirds 2.77R3 planeset (even if other performances didn't correspond to the respective real probably)

I heard someone to say about ALLIES planeset that, it was made by Americans and then suited for Americans. :p

I have seen even some planeset made by Russians and suited only for Russians (in a different simulator). Anyway often programmes implementing a game exceedes  overmodelling theyrs country planes.

Was I clear enough ?

This is the main reason so few pilots prefer LW Aircrafts (I know to be hopeles over Malta but......W ITALIA ;) :)  )

C u all in the skyes around Malta.

it's only an Squad event (like every TOD) but you can fly it anyway.
You can get a guest spot in an Axis Squad. You need to ask an Axis squad CO for invitation and you are ready to go :)

Guys, who wants a guyst pilot? More of us flying TOD -> more fun we have :)
