Flying Tigers, everything you need to know
« on: June 14, 2002, 09:47:26 AM »
Over the years, I have studied the AVG in depth, and have come to know several of the pilots and ground crew personally. The recent passing of my friend Erik Shilling was a terrible personal loss for me and all who knew this amazing man. Only a handful of the AVG remain with us today, and I'm pleased that HTC has included their Tomahawk as this, in a small way, keeps their memory alive.

For those of you who wish to learn more about the AVG, there are many excellent books in print. There is also a terrific video available. Its title is derived from the Chinese phrase for Flying Tiger: Fei Hu (pronounced - Fay Who), I received a copy from the writer/director of the video and it is simply the best there is. It was broadcast on PBS about two years ago. It can be ordered here: Fei Hu .

I have posted the entire transcript of the film on my website, and you can read it here: Fei Hu Transcript .

Now an image for your enjoyment:

Thanks Widewing.  I don't think there isn't an article on your site that I've not saved nor read.  No hurry of course but I'm still anxiously anticipating the next Grumman chapter :)

One thing I regret not pursuing more was the effort to buy Mr Schillings book from him. I'd sent a couple of emails (and tried contacting him on the Delphi fourmsn) but never heard back and I figured he was busy as wel all can be at times. I simply forgot all about it :(

Anyway. This all reminds me of 'Downtown' who ought to be by here any day to give a "woOot!" over the new sharp toothed beauty :)

I had the honor and privelage to meet several of the AVG last year at the Museum of Flight.  Thought I'd share a group photo will y'all.  Sadly, several have passed since this was taken in May 2001.

The rest of the images can be found here.
