Base ACK
« on: June 16, 2002, 01:08:43 AM »
Does anyone have any tips for taking on base ACK (AKA Turbo laserz)?  Is the trick a lot of luck?  I've done lots of offline work, I can peg ACKs with a glace and mow down the whole base in two passed.  That's offline with their lethality reduced.  The problem I have when I approach base ACK is at about 2 or 3k out, dodging and weaving they manage to blow a wing off.  I'm usually flying a 110.

Any tips?

Well the best advice is to have a couple of other targets for the ack.. bring friends who will engage the ack at the same time, therefore the ack can't engage all of you.

Otherwise its not easy to take down all the ack alone, you will likely take a hit or 2 no matter what you fly.  190's and other planes with good roll are good for deacking because it gives you the ability to jink really quicky leaving the ack constantly recalculating your flightpath.

One thing guys will do is try to take too many acks down per pass, this usually results in you eating dirt.

Patience!!  take out a couple and extend and set up for another pass.  Don't let your plane get too fast, hi speed makes you easier to hit.  I believe the faster you go the more predictable you are due to reduced maneuverability.

Don't point your nose at any ack for more than a split second

practice.

Ack works on a predictor, the way to defeat it is to never fly in any given dir/attitude for more than 2 secs.

Constant small rolls, rudder slides, pitch changes are the way to escape being hit.

Once out of range climb high again, dive in and take out 2 or 3 then escape again.

Thanks for the tips guys, they helped a lot.  I noticed I was trying to zoom in and wasn't avoiding as much as trying to keep my aim on the ACK.  I definately think the smaller profile planes, with faster roll rates have a big advantage in DeACKing a field.

Actually the P47 with its 8 .50's works very well.
Secret is to shoot early & zoom back up out of range.
