"Mission Theater" Thread... A New Direction for the CT?
« on: June 21, 2002, 12:04:49 PM »
HiTech posted a comment in the name change thread.  I thought that it was worthy of its own thread since it could mean big changes for the CT.  Let's see what kind of ideas we can contribute to this concept:

How about we call it the mission theater.

Then change the game play to be mission based only, automaticly run on every hour, with missions for both offense and deffense.

Then  change the scorring to be scored on mission accomplishements and not personal achevments?

Then have the CM's create the set off missions for automation?

Well.  Initially.....could we eliminate the notion that is is missions "only"?  I'm not much of an organization guy, and there are probably others like me.  Also, lots of people only have 30 minutes or so to stop by - and they're SOL if they come in at 10:15, if it's a mission "only" theater.

In the North Africa setups I've noticed people running missions, and those seemed to be well-attended.  By others.  Which is fine by me.

One last thought, in light of the apparent problem of this past Tuesday:  Won't mission "only" setups almost certainly result in lopsided forces?

- oldman (who accepts that change is probably going to come anyway, because the numbers are not high, and realizes that this is not his own personal arena) (more's the pity)

CC that oldman, the arena would cease to be if we couldn't defend at will.

although i love flying in missions i think a mission only arena would not work because all ppl dont like to fly missions.

that being said maybe the person that sets up each weeks arena can build missions actually u may need two ppl to dedicate a side one for  axis and one for allis  and pre build some missions for each side .

since we dont have a very large number of ppl in the arena maybe these missions should be small at first 8  ppl then once the mission is 75% full it will auto start in 5 min that way maybe some can get others to join to fill it and adjust it accordingly to fit in any extra persons over the limit number.

and of course if others want to make missions they can also i personally would like to plan some missions and may start to in
the near future.

I think for a "Mission Theater" to work, the concept needs to add to what we currently have running in the CT.  It should only add something without taking away from what makes the CT so great.  Any good idea that encourages missions and participation may be worth testing and trying in the CT.

I think the concept is worth a try but on a trail basis first

Say missions that last a day, auto change at midnight, don't allow side switchin once someone joins a side until the next mission. Post stats of ppl that take part. Reward the winning side with hats, t-shirts and booze :)

Advertise the heck out of it, and see how it goes

Dunno about the rest of you but after I sign in, the room objectives, stats, side info that pops up in the little window that I always close too fast, is gone until I sign on again. Be good to be able to pull this info up at will for a refresher.

Everyone says score/rank doesn't matter but I think the fact rank isn't working in CT ain't helpin the numbers none... neither are those slow arse, can't see a darn thing jap planes :)

This is a great idea!
Especially in this weeks set up where the info can be important to how you plan attacks.

Trying to get a better understanding of your thoughts,

S!

This is something which I brought up a while back.

I posted a query on this board asking people what they would think of the idea of people only being able to fly in a mission in the CT.

Personally I think it is an idea worth trying.  It would solve some of the problems with low density, and it would give the CT a whole different feel.

However, I think people would need some kind of automated system to inform them as to mission start time etc.

I also think basic missions, as in 'Fighter Sweeps' etc. would be a nessesity.  Make a 2 aircraft Fighter Sweep be available as a mission almost anytime.  It would still have a different feel, in that players would not be flying solo, but as part of a team.

And those guys who want to get into a fight fast would not nessesarily have to wait too long to  fly.

Perhaps a program could be created which would automatically generate missions.

The CT Staff could set the parameters of the program ie, what the objectives and targets are, what general types of missions, etc, then the program would generate missions.

To make a mission based CT work, I also think we would need smaller maps.  We don't want the two sides running missions which don't intersect.   Combat between the sides has to be the end aim.

                                              Cheers Buzzbait

It seems to me that this would just put limits on an already limited arena. I know why I fly CT because of Historical plane match-ups, and the CT community it'self. We have a few problems, like over population on one side or the other. These things can be over come, in fact a couple of us in VF-27 are trying remedy that problem now.I'll prob hang out, but taking the freedom away from people to fly  the types of sorties they want, and force them into missions is not going to help populate this arena. This is my opinion mind you, I don't know this for fact. However since the current CT management has taken over things have been good here, like I said earlier a few problems, but they can be fixed. A thread that started because people were worried about the name of the arena affecting the population, has now turned into changing the whole concept of this arena. As it stands now people fly more in MA not because of the name of the CT arena, but because they have more choices. Most of us are happy with the choices we have in CT. If you limit them any furthur, I don't see how it will attract new players, and it may drive CT regulars away. Anybody that wants to fly missions can fly them now, why force everyone to fly them? However like Oldman says, this isnt my personal play ground, I'll just wait and see how it goes.
