Which FW-190 version do we get?
« on: November 07, 1999, 12:42:00 PM »
Taken from a post by Wells on the iEN UBB.

Quote
A 190 A-8 should be able to do 355 mph on the deck without MW50! Cripes, with MW50, speeds of 375-380 are likely and it's no wonder only the Typhoons and Tempests could catch it on the deck. I have read that either MW50 or Gm-1 could have been used but that GM-1 was rarely fitted. To me, that means that MW50 was most likely fitted. How many planes were fitted may never be known, but it makes sense that the low level intruder types, ground attack probably had it installed and the high altitude interceptors with the guns and rockets hanging off the wings probably had GM-1 installed.

So are we getting the GM-1 performance or MW50 performance model?

So, you are saying Fw 190A-8 will be faster than P 51D on the deck in AH ?

Seems to me P 51D in AH can do some 370 mph on the deck right now.

No doubt about acceleration, Juzz, but I am still curious about those speed figures.

AH models mph? I thought it was knots indicated - which is a whole 'nother ball o wax than mph. I just love folks that quote figures from books in mph, without bothering to do the conversion to knots indicated and think they are talking about the same thing<g>. 350 mph is how many knots indicated at sea level?

I was under the impression that AH displays IAS (indicated airspeed) mph, with the standard white needle, and the just added feature of the red-slash in TAS (ground speed) mph.

From what I have seen, the only aircraft data or references that typically use knots in either TAS or IAS, are the US Navy or maybe a few foreign navy's aircraft.

But I could be wrong.

Says "MPH" on that dial, Sleep.

And 375-380 kts would be 432-437 mph, even better
