New Server/Service Status
« on: September 23, 2002, 10:27:45 AM »
As you may be aware, we recently were testing a new server here at our headquarters.  The results have been encouraging.

The challenges we faced in bringing this all together have been time consuming.  Just a few of the issues dealt with studying Internet routing, measuring server performance, and  testing various software implementations.

Part of the time involved evaluating new operating systems for the our next generation of servers.  Our current operating system had no support for the available high end chipsets.  Bringing the host server code to a new operating system and new hardware required extensive testing.

In the preparations to move forward, we are pleased to announce the following.

The new server is going to be located at Savvis Communications main Network Control Center, which will give us direct access to virtually every major Internet backbone.

Redundancy of connections at this location will help to ensure connections are available at all times.  Fully manned and monitored 24 hours/day, 7 days/week will allow problems to be resolved in a more timely manner.

We have been working quite a while on this project, checking, rechecking, and testing to ensure we can transition the Main Arena to a better network environment to allow future growth and potentially better connectivity.

We expect the installation of the new server to be completed early next week and move of the Main Arena should be complete sometime after that.

During this time period, we will be in the process of implementing another server, which will also be hosted at Savvis Communications main Network Control Center, to host other high demand arenas.
