The Black Sea terrain stands out!
« on: September 24, 2002, 09:39:30 PM »
While the texture and tiles do seem a bit old, and some small erratic layers that do get in the way.. overall the settings are awesome and the snowy airfields are very cool!

Bf109F-4s, P-40s and Yak-9Ts make a interesting match-up, and Fw190A-5s vs La-5FNs in a wild engagement just keeps that adrenaline pumping through the veins! :)

It'd be nice to see more snowy plains.. there just seems to be too much brown texture forest tiles, as far as the eye can see.. and sometimes that does produce an ugly "brown smudge".. but alas this is another graphics gripe.

Many thanks to those who worked hard on this map.. it'd be even better with some refining.. and when finally that new terrain editor with customizable plane schemes come in, it'd be a major contendor for one of the best! - among with Tunisia, Burma '43 and Malta, BoB!

does anybody else get some real bizzare patterns on the the snow near the horizon when you role your plane?  my res is set to the 1076 x 800 or whatever that one is and 32bit colors.  It is almost unbearable.

What's interesting is that 95% (guessing) fly the 109 instead of the 190...

I love the map except for getting "you have ditched" when landing on A60, pissed me off bad.

What time were you guys on? When I was in there were no more then 6 online.

I have seen around 20 to 30 people at times had some real god fights.

Ya the ditch thing kinda put me off but what the hey, It is not a big impact on rank to dotch as aposed to land and Perks are useless in their so....

I think that is because it is hard to figure out what the advantage the 190A5 has over the La-5 is here.   The 190's speed at the altitudes the fights are happening at are about 325/335 (nowep/wep) vs. 335/360 for the La-5.  The 190's climb is 3200/3900 vs. the La-5's 3500/4400 .  The La-5 has a very good roll rate and good cannon with adiquate ammo.  The only thing it lacks is good visibility.

In short, the 190 just seems unable to use any of its strengths here.

The 109 on the other hand can at least TnB.

Any experten out there able to give me a hint on how to handle the La-5 with the 190A-5 in this arena?

The 190 can manage its own if the fight took place with equal E advantage at high speeds. Though the La-5FN is superior in almost every aspect against the 190A-5, some of the important factors such as speed is quite comparable. If the 190 didn't lose too much of E then it can run away for quite some time - usually long enough to find help. Also, in real tight situations, if utilized properly, the differences in roll rate really do stand out.

All in all, all conditions equal I don't doubt the La-5FN will always win over a 190A-5.. but if there is any sort of even slightest an advantage the 190A-5 has, its a pretty good match-up!

Haven't had much trouble with either the Yak or LA5 in this setup. I know from other setups though the LA5 is a dangerous opponent for the 190 A5.

Weird thing is, 190 was a much better plane then 109 in R/L, don't feel that is the case in AH, atleast not the earlier versions. The Dora and G10 are two other things.

A lot of the failings of the 109 don't manifest themselves in the game.

- Things like heavy stick pressures and lack of trim are compensated for by SW or hardware.
- The cramped cockpit doesn't really translate to my den.
- The 109 was and is a killer during takeoff and landing, no trouble in the game.
- That single cannon with its low ammo loadout must have given green pilot fits in RL.  In the game, most of us have gotten so good with AH ballistics that we get reasonable hit percentages even with tracking shots.

I can not hit anyone with this damned cannons. It is much easier to hit from 37mm cannon of Yak9T. :D

The 190 is more than competent against the russians if you boom and zoom.  I know it seems wierd since that la5 as an incredible climb rate, but they dont like to follow the vertical.  Under equal stall conditions (under 200) that la5 is a disaster in the vertical, whereas the 190 is just getting warmed up!
