What about the Black Widow and Blenheim?
« on: October 13, 2002, 03:01:34 AM »
Black Widow:
The P-61 saw service in WWII and was a Night / Day fighter with it's own radar.

A useful function in the MA that I can think of, would be to give dar to planes flying in range of the P-61, but only as much range as the P-61 had in real life.

So say if the Knights Lost Dar to a rook/Bish attack we could up a few of these (Perk?) planes and get Radar back, but localized towards the front of the plane, and only for planes in VOX range, OR, only for that plane and rely on cooperation from the pilot or Atached player to report via VOX or Text.

BlenHeim:
Other than being a neat bomber to fly,  it would make for some really balanced Early TOD frames. being one of the first Bombers of WWII.

P-61 would become the JaBo of choice i'd bet (carried over 6000 pounds of bombs on 4 hardpoints plus 10 rockets).  Beaufighter, He 219, Me 410, Ju 88 C or G (G was more than 1000 mph faster than A-4 and had 4 x MG 151 foward firing, could be a very good twin engine fighter), Do 217, Mossie XXX could all serve in the AWACS role. is there anything that really qualifies as a perk JaBo?

Prefer a Beaufighter over a P-61. Dual role of early war Night Fighter, AND anti-shipping/ground attack.

Prefer a Betty, He-111, or a Wellington for a light-med bomber.

Me 262 A-2 carried not even 1/4 the weight of bombs the P-61 did, but those 360 Mk108 shells are the equivalent in hitting power of maybe about 6 HVARs...i would have expected the Schwalbe could have carried a lot more than that.  the 110 G-2 carries twice as much...maybe it was limited by the long takoff run. i wonder why they never tried carrier style steam catapults for land based jets?

I suggested this a very long time ago, but with the recent changes HiTech has made to Radar, I thought now might be a good time to bring this idea back up?

The radar on the P-61 didn't work like the OP wished for.  It was not able to access like an AWACS.

There was a Wellington AWAC. Used to ID He111s flying out of the Netherlands launching V-1s.

This isn’t radar.  It’s an information system.   So he’s saying anything the P-61 can “see” would show on the map.   Of course that would be a narrow band in front of the airplane if it was only what the radar picks up.

Most airborne radars had a range of a few miles so it would not even reach beyond icon range in AH.

I think you might have earned it with a 16 year punt.

Definitely approve of more British stuff.    :aok

Beaufighter, Blenheim,  Meteor MKIII not necessarily in that order,   :devil
